Anyone know what the new 2.3 version of the scroll is like?

For me its a toss up between the new scroll and the following:

Tabtech M7

Cambridge Sciences iRobot

Both have more onboard memory and defintiely support the Android Market and Flash. The former has 19 very positive reviews on Amazon. Only downside is Droid 2.2 rather than 2.3 and I'm not sure whether the companies are UK based.

Any thoughts? Is there a massive improvement of 2.3 over 2.2?

I've asked this very question of the Amazon seller today, and have just had this reply:

We just recieved the 2.3 software for this device today.

If you wish, we can put it on for you before we ship it. Starting nnext week, it will be on everyone as standard.

This tablet is completely in English, I can assure you of that.

Indeed, Tabtech is our brand name and we are currently registering it and will be opening a website soon.

I bought the tabtech. Trying to figure out how to root it as the lcd density is really high meaning everything is quite big on the screen.

Ahha so did I! Did you get the 2.2 or the 2.3 version of it? If you bought it from WendyLee on Amazon, and you got it after mine (2.3) you probably got 2.2. This is because I immediately discovered it has a problem with randomising its MAC address every time it initialises the WiFi, so if (like me) you have set your router up for MAC filtering, obviously That Doesn't Work! So I wrote to her and told her about it that same night, her reaction being "eek!". Present solution: have turned off the MAC filtering in the router!

The YouTube app doesn't seem to work, but if you put Opera on it then that sorts that out.

I've tried Gingerbreak on it, but it gets as far as turning itself off and then when you turn it back on it's still not rooted. So if you work out how to do that, that'd be nice

Otherwise it's quite a nice solid piece of kit isn't it. Battery life seemed dire until I let it completely discharge, and then it picked up. I'll do that 2 or 3 times in the next few days.

There are way too many of these Chinese-made tablets bring sold as UK versions, including the apparent "Gingerbread" version, which doesnt exist IMHO, its only a bodged FroYo version.

Trouble is, under UK law its false advertising, under Chinese law anything goes as long as one can make money. I feel the same is true of the Scroll's original importer (Storage Options) they tried to make a quick buck and failed as their CS dept is useless.

I initially got the 2.2 version but I had requested 2.3 so Wendy very helpfully sent me 2.3 on an sd card by overnight delivery. However I soon ran into the same issues with 2.3 and I asked them whether they could send me a zip file with 2.2 so I could downgrade until 2.3 is more stable, which they did today, their customer srvice is AWESOME, much more helpful than Storage Options.

I would love to know how to root it though to increase the screen density as the icons are pretty big. Neither Z4root nor Universal Androot work. Any ideas?

Glad to hear they are better than SO.
I wonder if they would send you the files that should be available under GPL.... might help.
