Hi all,

First post on these forums, great to see so much activity!

I bought my scroll to use as a remote control (or "orbiter") for my LinuxMCE home automation system http://www.linuxmce.com/ using one of the Android apps written by the LMCE community, but now I am falling in love with the various other functions! Cracking device.

Just wanted to mention that I also bought my Scroll from Maplins with the 1.02 firmware already installed, but I still have a broken market place. It's all stock.

Also I did a factory reset, which allowed me to download Opera (via market place?) which I couldn't do before, but I still couldn't get anything off the market place itself (unless I am doing it wrong, doing it all through the browser, can't find a "market place" app pre-installed).

Cheers,
Matt.

Hi Matt................ It comes and it goes but it is very difficult to tie down.

I installed v1.02 and the market worked. I then applied some upgrades to make things quicker and improve battery (ie replacing build.prop with build.prop V3 available on this site. Then disabling unnecessary phone and gallery apps).

When I'd done that I tried back-tracking a step at a time but the market refused to work. So I reinstalled v1.02 and the market was back! I repeated all of the above steps, checking the market after each one.......All were applied and the market was still working. So all of those changes have nothing to do with the market failing.

The market is still working, although I am expecting it to fail sooner or later.

I agree that the Scroll is a fantastic little machine and it is "that close" to being brilliant. If we can get Android 2.2 onto the Scroll I think that many problems will be solved. I'm not sure exactly what is involved but I think it is a case of compiling a linux kernel including the modules needed for the Scroll hardware. How difficult it is to get the source I don't know. Similarly I don't whether the source needs to be edited or whether changes are only needed to config files. Other things may also need to be done that I don't know about.

Anyway Welcome to the Scroll! Neil

Thank you for the welcome, sir!

All sounds very random. If the problem is due to a duff androidID then I don't understand why it would work at all!

I read on the SO site that one could expect problems with the market place due to licensing issues, so perhaps not surprising that I cannot download apps from the web-based market. I have however now installed Applanet (thank you Detection for the tip) and am enjoying being able to download whatever takes my fancy for the first time with no problems.

However, I assume that I am still at the mercy of the androidID issue, despite using this Applanet app?

Cheers,
Matt.
