Moving on from the Scroll

Postby idlemarvel » March 6th, 2011, 12:01 pm

In other posts I have said that I need 2.2 for work reasons so I have had to replace my scroll.
In the end I went for a Linx Commtiva N700.
It is very similar to the scroll (7" Android tablet 800 x 480 display) but has the following advantages:
Android 2.2
Market enabled
Smaller (180x110x12 vs 200x130x12) and bit lighter (375gm vs 400gm)
Capacitative two touch screen vs one touch resistive
GSM (unlocked)
Bluetooth
GPS
Camera front (VGA) and rear (3 Mp)
Comes with faux leather case and 4GB microSD
It doesn't have HDMI out and only one mini USB (neither a problem for me)
Despite having 2.2 it still won't run Flash (processor too slow) which is biggest downside.
Of course it costs twice as much - £299 from Staples, also saw new one on eBay for £245 - if you have a Staples card you get 10% back in vouchers, or 600 Tesco points if you buy from Tesco, also £299.
I did think about the Galaxy tab (best price I could find £399 without phone contract) but I don't like the fact it has no USB, and apart from processor is no better spec than the Linx. Also ipad is much cheaper now, £329 for 16GB wifi only model from Tesco since they announced iPad 2, but ipad is too big and way too locked down for my liking.
Not suggesting at all this is for anyone else to follow but I thought you'd like to know what else is out there.
Oh, other downside is no forum like this. There is a sub-forum on modaco but it tends to have few posts and be very technical (rom building etc) not for "ordinary" users like this forum!
Cheers

Firmware 0.94 kernel 2.6.29 build 2.1, rooted, clockwork mod, build.prop v3, phone files renamed, manual youtube fix. Full market access!!!. Thanks for your hard work chaps.

I hardly use mine any more, back to my Desire HD with lightning fast screen and 2.2.

When (if) Steve produces a 2.2 with working Market for the Scroll then I will start using it again.

Me too I've moved on, found that the Advent Vega is a much better for my needs and the cost difference wasn't to bad either (£130 vs £220). it has the bonus of full flash 10.1 support android 2.2 it even has a Nvidia Tegra 2 1Ghz Dual core to make it fun super fast and a capacitive multi touch screen, just a shame its 10.1 inch and not 7

Random Spec List

Thanks for having me though guys :)

Thanks for the recommendation on the Vega. I've been reading the forum on MoDaCo and think the Vega could be the one for me.

I'd reserved a scroll 7" capacative 2.3 at Maplins, £154 (with a £10 online discount voucher applied) but PC World are doing the Vega for £199 now so for the bigger screen and improved flexibility the Vega offers seems like well worth the extra 44 squids. Plus there is an active Honeycomb project going on right now, beta already available, so it looks as though this will be the one for me.

Thanks for the info I got off this site.
