Hi,

I am testing a little idea (no previous android knowlege before i had the scroll) but so far managed to get over 5hrs 28 just on battery (from full) with 40% still left of battery power, with wifi on and using the scroll.

this might be a one off and nothing to do with what i have done. I will test more and post back if all still goes ok

Bloody hell that's good! I think everyone will be interested to here what you've done to get that sort of performance. I'm got under 3 hours today after charging all night.

up to 6hrs, but now a big drop down to 29% - put on charge now as dont want to run it flat as li-ion batts have a bad merory (so i have heard)

I need to test the changes i did from fresh when the scroll is back to full power, but to be honest i am not holding my breath. As i say, i have no android experiance before and to have possibly found a way to increase battery life, if so i am jammy, (and should get a loto ticket, this week)

but i have had it on for 6hrs on battery, maybe i am not using it with heavy power hungry apps or something like that.

Hi charlie,

Yeah thats from a full charge, just browsing and playing about. Nothing too intensive. Ive been using advanced task killer too, just to be sure there is nothing running. Maybe Ive bought one with a poor battery?

I've learnt not to trust the battery reading.

I have a home screen widget, and when I power on or come back from "standby" it always reads high, then drops.

Also, on low power (10% ish), it fluctuates up and down!

Considering the cost, I guess we have a cheaper battery ... wonder if it's replaceable ?

Hi,

TBH - i think i was just lucky with the battery time i had today. but this was the setup

WARNING - THIS IS WHAT I DID - THIS CAN MESS UP YOUR WIFI CONNECTION

1. set screen brightness to 30% (or as low as you can bear)

2. make sure you are connected to wifi

3. from home screen go to setting> wireless & networks > wi-fi settings

4. Also, turn off "tell me when you find open networks".

5. press menu 'hard button' then select 'advanced'

6. change wi-fi sleep policy to 'never'

7. go to market and download APNdroid

8. open apndroid and tick the following settings only -

Notifications
Disable all APN's

mms should NOT be ticked

Then click the button under the ad that says 3g/EDGE/GPRS

you should see an icon in the notification bar that says 'off'

If you use a task killer make sure that it does not kill apndroid.

NOTE *** Also when i turned off the scroll and back on - I had problems connecting to wifi !!!!!

to reconnect wifi - start apndroid again then use a task killer to stop it. connect to wifi (you may have to re-scan 1st) then start apndroid app (leaving the setting selected above)

----------------------------------

The base of my idea was that as android is for phones and the scroll cannot use the phone functions, but are still running, (big battery drain) - there are ways for supper users to stop the phones functions from running (needs root, i think) which is not something i am 'yet' to know how to do. so i was trying a workaround using an app.

I am new to android so follow with caution - those that are more famillar might be able to say, if i am on to something here or just barking up the wrong tree. most likey the latter

Good work, with finding out that the scroll is using phone services still even though it cannot be a phone! Will have to see If we can sort that one out
