Do not perform this if you want to be able to flash any original storage options updates with no further modifications - this does not effect comunity updates

What is Root?
Root is the name of the user that has access to all commands and files on a Linux or Unix–like Operating System. The root user can be considered like an Adminitrator account on a Windows system except root can do alot more (an extreme example being you can delete an ENTIRE linux system while it is still running if you are the root user).
Root is used by custom roms creators as it allows you to access the entire android file system so getting root is normally the start to custom rom creation and in our case getting 2.2 up and running on the Scroll Tablet.

Why Root?
On android root permissions are mostly used for removing pre-installed apps that are not wanted or required and for making backups of the system. An example of this is removing all the telephone features from the Scroll Tablet to extend its battery life.
Root can be used to restore the full Marketplace on some firmwares.

This should work on all known firmwares - 0.94, 1.00, 1.01, 1.02

Required Files
z4root 1.3.0:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833953
http://www.mediafire.com/?ksron5a7zqc5w3v

Android Terminal Emulator:

Once you have downloaded the two Required Files copy them both onto your SD card and Insert your SD card into the Scroll Tablet. Use a file manager (Astro/Root Explorer on the market) to Install both Applications by navigating to your SD card and then selecting each apk in turn.

Make sure your Tablet is plugged into the A/C outlet and is charged/charging

When you have installed the two Apps you need to select the z4root Icon in your app draw. You will be greeted with a Blue screen presenting you with two options.

You are given the choice of Temporarly rooting your device or Permanently rooting it. It is faily obvious what each choice does, Temporary will only remain rooted until you turn the device off. Permanant will stay rooted after the device is turned off and back on.

Select “Permanent Root”, The app will then do its thing and grant root access to your phone, the app will also Install a new app called SuperUser. Thats you done! You now have root!

To test your root install start the application Android Terminal Emulator. When the app opens type in “su” (without the quotes) and you should be greeted with a pop up from the SuperUser app requesting Root permissions.

If you do not recieve the superuser pop up try running the z4root app again (try temporary if you previously tried Permananent) and then try again.

Employees are like mules. Some you stand in front of and coax them along with a carrot. Some you stand behind and kick them in the arse. The key to management is knowing which mules are which!
