It's 34c here today :) mind you I'm back in the UK next week for a few days. How's the weather there?

hi Paul,

I guess you misunderstood Mitre's question about extra storage. he said "space for apps" is small, not entire internal storage. 2GB is enough large if it can be used as "space for apps". but it is divided into hidden system area, internal FAT area, and Android area. Android area is probably only 512MB and divided into several partitions. "space for apps", /data partition, is one of partitions, probably only 200MB or so.

size of partitions are defined in bootloader(lk.rom). in general it can't be changed by user. I can change partition layout in Android area if lk.rom is provided(but n/a for Scrolls). but I can't change total size of Android area (e.g. 512MB -> 1GB). there are some other TCC8902 tablets which have 1GB Android area and 700MB+ "space for apps" from other vendors.

as Fonefixer said, apps2sd feature is exist in Froyo/Gingerbread. it also help space for apps issue.

then, it should be better to provide ROM with bootloader file(lk.rom), and/or provide 2.2/2.3 upgrade, and/or ask to chinese factory for better partition layout.

--
talking about Adobe Flash for TCC8902 tablet, it's technically possible. Adobe Flash on Android Market only supports ARMv7 CPUs. but there is Flash10.1 for TCC8902/ARMv6. at least Haina (who make/sell Haipad) and Emdoor made/released ROM with Flash10.1 for their TCC8902 tablets.

I'm not sure inet-tek made ROM with Flash for their tablets. it also need license(in other word, money). but it's better to ask about it.

but I need to say, Flash10 on TCC8902 is slow. probably almost of all feel unhappy with it ;)

--
about GPL, many Android parts are not covered by GPL(you are correct). but at least kernel is GPL. StorageOptions has a right to get kernel source code from supplier(I know most chinese factory doesn't provide it), and of course customer of StorageOptions has a right to get it from StorageOptions too :)

Hi fun (et al) and everyone asking about source code and firmware,

Firstly, to fun directly - I think it's pretty clear that you know more about these subjects than me! I will speak to China again about the partitioning and see what they say. It might be for good reason.

I'll check the exact model of the chip. Our reasoning that flash isn't supported might well be the same as saying that the performance is so bad that it might as well be not supported. Regardless, I'm not going to be able to open this up.

Good news
We're getting the source code for you - the factory have promised to send it to me next week. We will send it out directly to those who ask for it from here.

Bad news
We cannot upgrade 2.1 to 2.3 - a firmware patch is simply not possible as the hardware is fundamentally different between our 2.1 and 2.3 devices. I've asked and I know our Chinese colleagues would facilitate this for us if they could. apologies for this.

Thanks - have a nice weekend everyone.

How about 2.1 to 2.2? Should be feasable.

Hi Fonefixer

We've never had a 2.2 device on the market so we don't have a build that we would release. I'm sorry I can't offer you something in this respect.

Hi everyone.

Thanks for taking part in the past week or so. I hope it was something you felt was worthwhile. I will try and come back and visit in the future and maybe do something similar in the future.

Just a few loose ends to tie up:

- I need to make the source code available. I've been promised it this week. My intention is to make it available to those who request it from us directly, so please email support@storageoptions.com if you would like it (I would suggest waiting until the beginning of next week).

- I need to confirm the chip used in the Scroll Excel.

- I promised a discount for forum members and I will come up with something as soon as we have a discount code mechanism on our website. I've asked for this to be implemented ASAP - it will probably take a week or so. Regardless I will make sure you all get something before Christmas.

- Fonefixer mentioned about stocking spare parts. It's not something we're going to be able to do as things stand. We just haven't got the scale as yet.

- And ta da da! We also need to pick a winner of our brand new, rather excellent Scroll Excel (available for pre-order now direct from us):
http://www.storageoptions.com/products/ ... roll-excel

Just a couple of points on this product, if you will let me for a moment:
* It's going to feature on The Gadget Show next Monday 21st November and again on 5th December.
* We genuinely have limited supply before Xmas, it will be a bit tight for us to place another order with the factory and get them here before xmas, after it's featured on't telly.
* If you want one for Xmas, I would suggest you order it before the end of November and you should get one.

So without further ado, the winner is (as drawn by the randbetween function in MS Excel (as a sort of tribute)):

Mitre

Congratulations to you sir. Please email our support address for my attention with your address and I will ensure a model is reserved for you from the first batch on the market (around the 2nd December).

Thanks again everyone.
