At the moment I'm more than a bit confused about the different version of ICS we could use, the methods of flashing them onto the Excel and how to get back to Gingerbread if it all goes horribly wrong... is it just me?

Tbh, I am a bit confused on this like you. Not been able to keep up with the fast pace, these guys have progressed.

Hi @suggsy89 and thank you.

Yes I was following (as in 'watching', rather than understanding) the amazing work you and @Mitre were doing with the Tablo stock image... wasn't there something else needed to then return the Excel to its Storage Options factory fresh appearance?

Once installed, are there any differences between the earlier ICS version you were using and the one provided by Fonefixer / Amy?

It's been a pretty emotional last few days for everyone on the Forum but, maybe, when things settle down I wonder if it might be possible to have some 'How to' guides for 'ICS upgrading' and 'What to do if it all goes wrong', for those of us who are a bit reluctant to take the plunge.

Great work 'suggsy89 and @Mitre.

first thing first as long as you have the right drivers   you cant brick the allwinner cpu. as it can flash from switched off via usb.
second we can get back to a scroll image if you
1.get clockworkmod for 2,3 do a backup
2.then flash ICS Fonefixers or Momo9 via Livesuite
3.install CWM for ICS do a backup
to get back
4.flash Tablo 2.3 firmware
5.instal CWM for 2.3
6.restore your excel 2.3 clockwokmod image from 1.

Edit found the keyboard for some reason it was set to google voice keyboard(automatic) switched that off and keyboard popped up
