It was, that was the solution, thanks. ...
Can I now safely delete that "modules" folder from my external SD card?

NP. Excellent!

As Suggsy says you can delete the modules folder on the SD card.

FYI - I emailed Storage Options to see if there was an image of the software on our tablets:
----------- snip 8< ---------------------------------------------
Product category: Scroll Tablets
Model no.: Excel Build 20120307
OS: Linux
Date of purchase: 20/4/2012
Place of purchase: Amazon
Serial:
Description: Are you able to supply a firmware image for my Excel? I notice that my build number is very recent and the hardware is different to other Excels (at least some driver Module files are different between versions).

Full build number is 97F2-D1-H1-H01-1748.20120307

I appreciate that you are not the OEM so have limited access to such things but I did wonder if you contact the OEM and get a firmware image, or at least point me in the correct direction.

Thanks

No software upgrade available yet, but keep checking our website.

Its nice to know that there may be an update.

But what I really want is an image of my current software as a way of restoring the unit.

Are you able to contact the OEM and enquire?

Hi, we are the OEM and currently don’t have any software available to send to end users, due to the nature of the licensing

Make of the above what you will.

I have the tools to make the livesuite image, ive done it for the Extreme and the old Excel.

I would need all the partitions dumped by "dd" again though, apart from your data. Preferably all clean images with no modifications.

Oh, and Storage Options are not the "OEM" that means that what they are saying is that they are "The Original Equipment Manufacturer"
Which they are not, not even CCI Distribution are the OEM, Storage Options are a sub company of CCI, they are just Distrubutors.

They also have the firmware, no doubt about it, but they will not release it to the public due to reasons beyond belief.

I know, I had a giggle when I saw that!

Anyway I have news to report..... I flashed ICS using your guide viewtopic.php?f=55&t=2155

... and its working! camera, touch, display etc. I will give it a good going over, I have also flashed CWM using the same instructions so it looks like rather than the hardware being different its more likely to be a kernel difference in the GB builds that causes the original CWM to fail.

I am a lot more comfortable now I appear to have a "standard" machine. I was worried that Worzzil and I had ended up with some sort of Heinz 57 Frankenstein version.

Chances are I will not now revert to GB so sorry I missed your post otherwise I would have done another dump before flashing. BTW what format are the LiveSuite img files in? Do you have some notes on creating the LiveSuite files?

Anyway I thought I would share my good news.

Yeah, that's exactly what I was worried about too. That's once I'd got over the worry of having no CWM and no working Market. ;)

I'm really pleased you've got ICS on your Scroll successfully. I was disappointed when I thought I wouldn't be able to get that on mine and I'd like to have, as you say, a "standard" machine. So once I've got set up in Windows and worked up the courage I'm sure I'll be giving this a go as well.

Presumably I could do this as I've not flashed mine yet? If I can, and it would be helpful, I'd be happy to help.

Worzill, if you could give Suggsy what he needs that would be excellent, that would mean people with older builds could update to the latest GB build and everyone would have a safety net.

My experience with ICS, is that it is not as snappy as GB but usable ( I guess that's to be expected ), the camera in Skype is misbehaving and I am getting lip sync problems in iPlayer that I did not see in GB. I might mess with the LCD density as my eyes are not up to the font size in some apps.

I haven't tried the updated ICS build yet as I wanted to get a feel for what if anything was wrong with this one.

Cheers

If someone could get me the nand images for this firmware I woud be more than happy to make the livesuit image no problem at all.
ICS does have bugs, but I do prefer it over GB because of the overall look and feel of it.

Over time the bugs will be ironed out though.

I will be going back to GB, as the battery life is less and my eyes are not up to the 120 LCD density. I tried 160 but then you may as well have GB. The biggest issue is its not as responsive as the GB build. I brought the tablet as a media player for my 5 year old and my prime concern is easy of use and long battery life.

If I get the tablet back to my original SW I will send you a nand backup.

Cheers
