Anyone purchase a Scroll Excel recently?

Postby ptbw » April 22nd, 2012, 10:55 am

Rather than cloud the how-to thread I thought I had better post here.

Background:
I am on my second Scroll Excel, the first I was able to install CWM recovery without issue however it had a problem with the display, the replacement arrived and I installed recovery assuming it was identical to the original. It installed fine but there is no display in recovery!

This could be some hardware difference between my original and the new, I have no way to tell. The build number of my current Scroll is: 97F2-D1-H1-H01-1748.20120307

Unfortunately I did not take a backup of the latest Scroll before installing CWM so I can't compare this one with the original backup.

A request:
Anyone installing CWM on a scroll purchased from the beginning of April, could they send me a backup of their NANDF partition. Instructions here: viewtopic.php?f=55&t=1800

Thanks in advance.

Phil
Still playing with:
Scroll Excel - 2.3 CWM5
ZTE Blade - MCR 12
Vega - Corvus ICS
Nokia N8

I don't know enough to help you with CMW but it is interesting to note that your build number is different to many Excels that shipped around Christmas time. I have noticed on the Storage Options site that many Scroll models evolve in build and hardware specs during their sales lifecycle.
Doesn't answer your question but may help someone reading this post who can. :)

Don't know if you've noticed suggsy89 but most of the Excel users on here (to-date) have got the November 2011 build.
This one looks to be later which means yet another version compared to those who bought their Excel well before Christmas.
On my counting on this forum - we now have three Excel build versions to deal with.

@ptbw Does this build still suffer with lip-sync issues when using iplayer?

If ptbw could dump the nand blocks, i could probably convert it to a .zip, i would also need the zImage (kernel)

Hi ptbw & Suggsy, I have just bought one of these It should arrive early next week. I am new to this but if you tell me what to do I will be happy to help. I won't flash ICS to it until you say what you want

Yeah it would be good to pull the firmware off the device if it does have the update, if clockworkmod isnt compatible with the new version, obviously we would need a replacement.

Okay well when it arrives I will let you know the sn as obviously it will be no use if it's older than this one. then I will put CWM on it and do a full backup, is that the file you want? I'm new to this mate and haven't had a pad before

Well, the problem is, it looks like the current CWM recovery is not compatible, so we would need a complete nand dump before attempting any mods.

I will check on the commands later

Forgive me for being stupid but if we can't get CWM on it how do we do the backup?
