Hi all,

Firstly having spent a few days with my Excel am really pleased with the purchase - what an absolute bargain!

I have seen many posts about marketplace compatability and am very limited in knowledge (and therefore ability!)so dont want to fiddle too much but know that you can side load apps from a PC.

So, all I am after is some advice on actually getting the apps onto the PC - for instance on the marketplace, I have set up an account but when I look to download the apps it states they will be added to my device when I next login.

Is this correct or am I missing something - I have the pdf from Storage Options which shows how to get the APK files onto the scroll but im baffled about getting the APKs onto the PC.

All help greatfully received.

Thanks in advance

Hi

That's the way the market works you are not doing anything wrong. The trick is to get the Excel to have the market application and so download the apps.

My latest Excel came with the market already loaded, there was a widget on the second home page. The first Excel I brought had a switch in the settings to enable the market.
See this post viewtopic.php?f=55&t=1708

Once the market application is setup for use with the Excel you will see an entry for it on the market if you browse with a PC. Selecting an app with cause it to be sent to your tablet and you will get a notification that its being downloaded.

Once you have every thing working you can try this post: viewtopic.php?f=55&t=1945
A word for warning that you should be comfortable with using the tablet before attempting this.

Hope this helps.

If you find some apps are not available (you may find this when looking for specific apps such as facebook and the like) it may be that your Marketplace is restricted. This depends on your firmware and ident file. If you haven't 'tweaked' your tablet and it is on the same firmware it was when you bought it, the chances are you'll have full access anyway :)

Cheers Mike,

I think thats why I was so confused - I saw so many posts stating no access to the marketplace that I just assumed instead of doing the sensible thing of trying it myself!!!

Seems to be working fine (fingers still crossed)

All the best

Excellent. One of my colleages bought an Astro (Excel) after seeing mine, and his even runs BBCi player... mine refused to, and only after a firmware update did it work.

Depends how fussed you are to have latest firmware. If you are happy, the tablet is functioning as you want and you can access all you want... stick with it :o)
