CM10 Lite (Jellybean) Christian Troy Repackage

Postby shaun2029 » August 27th, 2012, 9:21 am

Hi,
I have started this thread for my repackage of the Cristian Troy's CM10 for the A10.

This repackage fixes the problem with the size of the system partition. The system partition on the Scroll Extreme is too small for CM10. It is 264MB but needs to be 300MB. This explains a lot of issues/crashes I have had with CM10. This is fixed (hopefully) by repackaging CM10 and GApps.

This repackage removes the following from CM10:

system/tts all except english
modifies system/app/latinIME.apk - remove all but english
system/app/CM9Wallpaper.apk
system/app/VideoEditor.apk
system/app/RomManager.apk
system/app/LiveWallpapers.apk
system/tts All languages except english
system/Phone.apk (not sure if removing this will cause issues)
All videos
All ringtones except Acheron.ogg
bootanimation.zip

GAPPS
Removed system/tts (languages except english)

To flash CM10 lite you need to:
1. Full wipe
2. Flash CM10 lite
3. Flash compatibility 907c_compatibility_1.2.0.zip
4. Flash Google apps lite
5. Reboot

PS: If you know how to increase the system partition please discuss how. This would remove the need for a repackage.

Hi Shaun and welcome to the Scroll forums...... and what a way to make an entrance 8-)

I know this has been causing some people an issue and they will breathe a sigh of relief some one has made a CM10 lite to try, If i seem to run in to this problem with memory then i will try it on for size but seeing as everything seems to be running ok'ish i don't wanna tempt fate!!!!

Nice work :D

One method to test if you have this issue is to run df.

i.e.
root@android:/ # df
Filesystem Size Used Free Blksize
/dev 406M 48K 406M 4096
/mnt/asec 406M 0K 406M 4096
/mnt/obb 406M 0K 406M 4096
/system 251M 248M 3M 4096
/data 1G 514M 666M 4096
/cache 125M 4M 121M 4096
/storage/sdcard1 29G 25G 3G 16384
/storage/sdcard0 5G 773M 5G 4096
/mnt/secure/asec 5G 773M 5G 4096

If the system partition is showing 4K or 12K etc you have this problem.

This issue manifests is strange ways.
Before the change I could not get speech recognition working and some apps would not install.

I also speculate that this is why CM10 needs to be flashed in such a strange order to get the touch screen working. i.e. Flash CM10 then compatibility then reboot and then gapps. With the lite version this is not required.

I am glad that it is working for you, but I would not suggest you use it for anything mission critical :)

Currently I am working on fixing the problem I have when CM10 has loaded many applications. It seems to start acting crazy and stops loading apps, gives black screens, etc. In the past I have found that limiting the background processes to 4 mitigates it.

The next release will hopefully fix this issue.

Could work better than the file sharing site you're using. Downloaded the files tonight and it was a real pain in the a****.
Going to try it out soon. Thanks for your hard work.

Hello there, nice start :)
Was this built from source? As i am just downloading the CM10 source files along with Christian Troys source files

I know a way to / how to increase the system partition size (ive done it before) but that involves taking apart a livesuit image that is already setup with a system partition size of.. lets say 300mb, injecting a dump of the system partition, then repackaging the image.
This will give you a new (.img) file that can be flashed via livesuit. (A new base perhaps?)
Result being the same thing if you use CWM Recovery to flash, but with the added bonus of a larger system partition.

It can be done, its pretty easy once you have the tools... but will the guys here want to go down the livesuit route?
