Internal SD Card

Postby KLRichards » November 30th, 2012, 1:28 pm

Hi all, not posted for a while, hope all of you are well...

I'm having a problem with my Extreme, and cant seem to fix it.

I "accidently" wiped my SC card, but unknown to me, it wiped the "internal" SD card partition. Now I have a little over 5Gb free on the "internal" SD card, but I cant use it. If I try and move apps to it, it says it is full or not mounted. It is mounted but I cant seem to use it at all....

Anyone have any ideas, as it leaves me with only approx 500mb of free space on the internal storage.

Any advice is more than appreciated...

Regards

Kevin

Hi Kevin, have you got original (stock or pseudo stock) ROM you can flash back to?
Depending on how you executed the wipe (what were you using?) may or may not allow you to do a factory reset.
If you have lost partitioning it sounds like you may need to re-flash the ROM to restore status quo...

Going on past threads from Suggsy89 it would appear that essentially the Extreme is same as the Yarvick TAB467 GoTab Zetta 9.7" Tablet - and if all else fails you can download their stock 4.0.4 ROM from this page: http://www.yarvik.com/en/android404/ Scroll well down the page until you see it listed.

Hope you get it sorted, it's a bugger when they play up.
If it isn't broken then don't try to fix it!

Thanks Trashcooky,

I did flash previous ROMs back but it wouldnt play ball. They worked ok, but none of them would see the "internal" SD giving me on 1 GB of internal space.

What confuses the issue big time, is that it lists the drive as Internal Storage from the System Menu, but it is actually pointing to the EXTERNAL SD card. Found that out, as when I tried to reformat what I thought was the Internal SD (as that is what it said), it actually formated the external SD card, along with all my backups...

I have got copies of the backups on my NAS drive, but it is proving to be a b***tard to get them from that NAS drive to the SD card, as the SD card became corrupt and started blue screening my PC.

Anyway, havent had much time to play with it recently, but I have managed to reformat the SD card (external that is), so now in the process of getting a good backup back to it, so I can try and recover.

Then I may be in a position to drop into the command editor and using my very old Unix experience try and work out why the internal SD wont mount.

Dont you just love technology that wont work....

Wow, what a complete pig to resolve....

I have now fixed this problem.... what I had to do was:-

1. Repartition my external SD card, as the Tablet completely corrupted it during a format, where I thought I was formatting the internal SD card, but found that the Jelly Bean ROM (and others) when you wipe or format the SD card (even though it says INTERNAL STORAGE) you are actually formatting the EXTERNAL SD. I suspect, this is down the ROMS we have installed being built from PHONE ROMS and not Tablet.. Anyway, I had to use Partition Magic on my PC to repartition the card as an 8Gb card would only format 3Gb. Then it kept blue screening the PC. In the end, had to put the card in my camera to format.

2. After I repaired the external SD card, I had to use my backup of the STOCK ROM and recover from that.

3. When the Extreme was back at the stock build, on boot it reported a FAILED SD Card suggesting a format. Making sure that the external was not inserted, I formatted the internal SD card. Had to do this 3 times before it worked. I then had my Extreme back to Stock ROM and a blank internal SD card.

4. Then copied my last backup of the Jelly Bean ROM to my external SD card via the PC, and using ClockWorkMod restored from that.

Result, being my Extreme back at Jelly Bean and an empty internal SD card accessible with 5.5Gb available.

What a real pig, but my Extreme is now working as it should....

So glad for you that you got it finally sorted and thanks for telling how and what you did to achieve this as I am sure it will help others enormously. Coincidentally, I have given up with JB on the Excel for very similar reasons - something is obviously amiss in the JB build we have all been working with. I have recently installed a 4.0.4 stock ROM released as support by Yarvik for their Excel clone. Yarvik also have a stock 4.0.4 Rom for their Extreme clone as well. If things go according to plan this along with others will soon be hosted in a dedicated section on the forum.

I noticed someone else having a problem with the "internal" SD card/storage on JB. Wonder if there is glitche in the build....

What really caused my biggest problem, was the tab said the SD card was corrupt format it, and when you did, it formats the WRONG card... From there the problem snowballs.

But got it back now... Think I will leave at the current JB ROM as it works ok, hangs now and again, but the Stock ROM did that.

Cheers for now...

Yes, exactly the same thing happened to me on the Excel but I didn't end up with a corrupted ext SD card even though the tablet told me so - and to format it, and like you I lost all my backups but also like you (2 wise men  ) I had it covered on my desktop PC..
