Extreme not charging properly

Postby Templar34 » April 12th, 2012, 1:45 pm

Hi all,

New and my first post :)

I`ve just received my Scroll Extreme (yesterday morning). Before charging I decided to load it up to see if there was any charge. Once loaded up I found the charge was at 71% and had around 6 hours of usage already :(

Not wanting to charge it back up I went straight onto using the battery charge for testing etc. After a few hours of use the tablet powered off earlier morning. I plugged in the mains to charge it back up and after 5 hours of charging I powered on to see what the % was. Instead the battery indicator was showing 44% which has not moved in the last hour.

I used the usb connector to charge up and it moved upto 45% but very slowly, still waiting for it to move to 46% at this moment.

I`ve put a RMA request in with ebuyer to get a replacement. Its a nice tablet and definately one I`d like to own without the charging problem.

Cheers

Update:

Called Ebuyer because I had a managment referral request to call them up. Spoke to someone from ebuyer returns for 2 minutes and no problems with having a replacement sent out. Citylink picking up tomorrow so hopefully the replacement will be okay.

My Extreme did once charge to 100% but left to charge overnight only got to 99%.

I'm wondering if this was because it was on standby versus powered off.

Gonna power down now, charge and see if I can get that little but crucial percentage point.

I have a similar query you may be able to answer. My extreme has literally just arrived within the last hour (super exciting to start playing with it!) and I'm following the instructions and giving a full charge before turning it on.

When I plugged it in to charge there was an animation of the battery charging, which vanished after a few seconds. Now I don't appear to be able to see any form of charging indicator, e.g. on my HTC Desire HD there's a little LED at the top of the phone which is orange during charging and turns green once fully charged.

So my question is, how do you know when it's fully charged? Thanks guys!

This is what is supposed to happen :).

You don't, unless you turn it on and look at the battery icon :P. For the first time charge, give it around 4 hours to get it up to a full charge.

Excellent! Just checking mine is right, bit concerned after reading so many people on here say there's was defective out of the box.

Thanks for this! It arrived at about 9:30 so will give it a quick switch on at half one. Seems a bit daft not having some kind of charging indicator while it's switched off, but I guess when you pay these prices you accept it's not going to be all singing all dancing.

I had my Scroll Extreme last week and was very well behaved, putting it straight on charge overnight....well more than over night, total of 20 hours. Only charged to 66%! Can use it for an hour then turns itself off due to low battery. Really gutted.

Got hold of Ebuyer no problem, they said to contact Storage Options, phoned and left 2 messages first day, they phoned back next day when I was driving saying they wouldnt phone again but to phone them! 10 phone calls that day....no luck. 24 phone calls the following day with 5 messages left and STILL no one would call me back!

Contacted Ebuyer and they are sending a replacement, what a palava!

I so hope this isnt an ongoing issue. I need something that will charge in less than a day that I can use for more than an hour (and this was without wireless!)

GRRRRRR......

You should have refused to contact Storage Options and told ebuyer, that the contract is with them, so they have to sort it. Really pees me off when they pass the buck. You have now undergone an expense (phone calls) when you shouldn't have.

eBuyer did this to me, I made 1 and only 1 call, when I couldn't get through I got back to eBuyer and said its your problem, sort it.

You are lucky you got 66%!... mine is stuck at 5% even after a charge through the night, the problem is i hate having to send this back to Ebuyer for a replacement because there is always the chance you will get a replacement tablet with a different fault.. the two main issues have been Charging problems and severe dead pixels.. one or two is not ideal but fine, the one i have is perfect as can be for this price except the charging issue, I tried the usb to trickle charge but that never shifted it from 5%, i'm not sure if this is a software or hardware issue?.. never previously owned a smartphone or tablet i turned it on out of the box and it was about quarter charged... i did learn later i should have put it on a long charge straight out the box before even turning it on!... we live and learn, with that said i do find it hard to accept this would create such a scenario that cannot be solved, i tried resetting but it's the same, the battery icon comes up with the green bar animation on it but 5% it remains, when i take the plug out it turns off which is not surprising at 5%... just hope the replacement works... probably have a load of dead pixels!..:-(
