Problem installing ADB on EXTREME

Postby BobC » May 11th, 2012, 2:16 pm

I'm using Windows XP and wanted to use ADB with my Extreme.

Downloaded the SDK and grabbed the Google USB Drivers.:

Code: Select all

When I go through the steps to install the driver and point the install wizard at C:\Program Files\android-sdk\extras\google\usb_driver it complains that it ""Cannot install this Hardware" "...because the wizard cannot find the necessary software".
Checking in device manger the Extreme is enumerated as :
USB\VID_18D1&PID_0003&MI_01\6&204952AC&0&0001

I'm guessing that the .inf file needs tweaking for the Extreme. Has anyone done this ?

I've installed the driver using the above links and sure enough when I plug the Extreme in it shows up as an Android device in Device Manager so everything looked fine. So thanks suggsy for resolving that bit.

BUT when I fire up adb devices I get nothing. I've tried Android Commander and it can't see the device. When I plug in the tablet announces that USB Debugging is enabled. Is there anything else I need to do to get the process running on the Tablet that will enable me to use adb or have I missed out some other step.

I've consulted all the on-line info I can find but I'm getting nowhere - has anyone actually done this on an Extreme ?

I've tried that now - it installs the tethering s/w on the PC but it fails to push it's other component onto the tablet (I think that is what should happen). Still no adb connection.

I did think it might be a firewall issue on the PC but I totally disabled that and still no connection.

It looks like there is a problem with the Extreme build that means the connection won't work.

Thanks for the ideas though.

Sorry for butting in.
Just my pennies-worth. Have you made sure that USB debugging is ticked?
I will now hand you back to the genius, that is Suggsy :)

Have you got java installed? That might be an issue download and re-install the java-6 sdk or something like that its called lol

Other than that it should be okay, nothing needs to be done to the Extreme, unless you have messed with the system files un-intentionally which i dont think you have.

Yes, USB debug is ticked and when I plug in the Extreme and it connects it pops up a notification that debug has started.

Hi Bob, did you manage to resolve this?

I have the same problem (except I'm running Win 7 64 bit). I've used the USB drivers from PdaNet and the Extreme shows up in Device Manager. USB debugging is enabled.

Entering "adb devices" returns "20080411 offline".

Are there any other hoops to jump through to get the thing online?

Pete.

You can use this: http://upld.eu/droid/livesuit.zip - it's the Yarvik version of LiveSuit with USB drivers that work on my x64 Windows 7 system.
