I did the same with the Excel, and would do the same with the Extreme (if I had one) - IMHO - there is not really a need for a task killer to run on auto on Android. - Still useful to have to use manually very occasionally, when you really need to kill an app, to restart it for debugging, modding reasons etc.

Well, it depends, normally you just un-install it (use a free app from play shop, is an easy way) if the app is installed as a user one. My guess is that on the Extreme (I don't have one BTW) they have it as a system app (like on the Excel - which I have) So to remove that kind of app you need to root the device 1st, AFAIK the Extreme is not rooted out-of-the-box, unlike the Excel.

Hope that helps a bit.

Have you tried the opera browser??

If that is slow then you definately have a problem....

And where you using the built in task killer, or using a task killer program?

Task killer programs cause more harm than good, and cause all sorts of instabilities.

Mine is also build 03F2-P1-H2-M01-1796.20120321 ... browsing, typing, video all seem more than fine..

Have watched HQ video in youtube app, http://www.channel4.com/programmes/4od & http://www.channel5.com/demand5 via the browser. If websites think you are using a mobile/ipad, then go into browser settings and check 'request desktop site'. BBC iplayer on the web seems to insist on taking me a 'large screen' version of the site.. which then does not want to play.. although I am yet to try the tips from elsewhere on the forum..

Sounds like @airside has either a dodgy unit or something odd going on.. @airside have you tried another wifi or the unit in airplane mode?

ITV player working from app- installed manually from http://www.apktops.com/itv-player-1-0-0.html

As above - all working - 4od via web, Demand5 via web, YouTube via app or web!

Okay the issue with iPlayer and Youtube is linked to crap broadband QoS. Before anyone screams at me remember I am the author of 200m internet firewalls and former Head of Broadband Dev at NTL and an Android developer. The Extreme has a lot going for it but its handshaking with G/N wifi networks is very 2006. It cannot use N speeds eg my iPad I can get 56Mbps wireless on my 207Mbps home fibre broadband downstream. My Extreme connects to same switch at 11Mbps.

So you'd assume that's a true speed but then you have the immature ICS stack underneath which throttles the connection. So if you have a cruddy sub 8Mbps broadband connection via a domestic router especially if its one of the pieces of crap from Virgin or BT that I designed the firmware for and you're NAT'ing devices behind it you're going to get crap contention speeds. I am probably glib given I can test here on a constant 200Mbps± feed downstream but the underlying ICS stack and lack of N negotiation handicaps the Extreme.

Before you all scream outrage, the Extreme still outperforms HTC, Motorola, Asus and Archos higher price Android tablets. How do I know ? Ive got them here in the lab..... its not an iPad it doesn't claim to be either.

Seems odd, I'm on 40Mb connection and my Extreme seemed to be using all the available bandwidth. I'll have to give Speedtest a run when I get it back.
