Seems this is a good price as ebuyer has one for £29.99 http://www.ebuyer.com/268596-kingston-32gb-class-10-microsdhc-card-sdc10-32gbsp I was thinking I can stomach the extra £8 was worth buying something I've heard of, but if you like it then I might take a punt on the one you've got!

May I ask how long it took to deliver? I need it by next Thursday, so better order today I suppose.

I've used the brand before and always thought of them as comparable to Kingston in terms of quality. Delivery took 3 days I think, it comes from Jersey so it may take longer.

I must be missing something here. I would jump at a 32gb card if I knew the Extreme would use the memory. But as I've said, currently I have an old 8gb card installed as the External SD card, and the tab sees it, allows me to read and access files on it, but will not play ball when it comes to apps. Apps will only reside on the Internal SD card.

No I foolishly thought, I could add 8gb (or more) using the external card and get. total of 16gb usable to the tab, ie get a 16gb tablet in the same way as an iPad is 16gb. Sill mistake maybe, but SO say in the sales literature it is 8gb and EXPANDABLE to 32gb using external SD cards. This in my opinion is complete mis advertising.

Of course if someone can please tell me it can be done and how to it I woukd be grateful.

The buying a 32gb card would make so much sense to me.

Regards

Kevin

I certainly agree with you about the misleading wording but S.O. are not the only ones guilty of this. If you scan Amazon you will see they are advertising tablets with 1.6 Gig processors - but the truth is the Chinese manufacturers have started adding their CPU speed 1.2 to their GPU speed .4 and calling their tablets 1.6Ghz and Amazon are just coppying their specs. Another example is on Ebuyer, they are advertising the Scroll Excel ICS as having 2 cameras and it only has 1.
Regarding the external memory card useage I thought exactly the same as you with my Excel.
I believe it can be done but I have no idea how. I don't think it is a simple solution problem though, as Suggsy89 said about a request for bluetooth support: " a liitle bit like taking the piston out of an engine and putting it back whilst its running. Still we can live in hopes :D
If it isn't broken then don't try to fix it!

suggsy89 done a hack for this by by editing the vold.fstab folder so that the microsd became the default directory for downloaded apps
you could do this then use OTG usb for external memory when needed
from this thread viewtopic.php?f=55&t=2228&start=10 Dont flash any thing from here as its excel
Mitre wrote:thanks i was just trying to clarify so everyone knows what the hack is for.
so its not a have to but a personal choice?
for me i will keep as original and keep removable card for films music etc
cheers great work none the less

Yeah, its there if someone wants to try it, its easily reversable any way, just need to edit "vold.fstab" back to stock.

Code: Select all
# Mounts the first usable partition of the specified device
#/devices/platform/awsmc.3/mmc_host for sdio
dev_mount sdcard /mnt/extsd auto /devices/virtual/block/nandi
dev_mount extsd /mnt/sdcard auto /devices/platform/sunxi-mmc.1/mmc_host /devices/platform/sunxi-mmc.0/mmc_host
dev_mount usbhost1 /mnt/usbhost1 auto /devices/platform/sw-ehci.1 /devices/platform/sw_hcd_host0 /devices/platform/sw-ehci.2 /devices/platform/sw-ohci.1 /devices/platform/sw-ohci.2
WHAT DO WE WANT?
A TIME MACHINE!
WHEN DO WE WANT IT?
IT DOESN'T MATTER
