Woooo Hoooo!!!! I got it to work!!!! :D

Suggsy, yep tablet is definitely rooted.

I tried your 4.0.4 RC1 firmware, the firmware is really good but it still didn't recognise my camera, so I installed Christian Troy's pwn3d-1.4 from SlateDroid and Bam! it recogsied the camera immediately and wanted to download images... :o

I have tried Remote Release app and DSLR Controller app and I very pleased to say they both work fine :)

I think the problem is a usb driver issue, I ran an app that said it couldn't find a certain usb driver on the stock firmware, unfortunately I can't remember what it was called at the moment :(

srthomas, it may be worth trying the pwn3d-1.4 firmware, it worked for my Canon cameras, maybe it'll work for Nikon too...

nick

Hi Nick,

What app identified the missing driver? I can find out the name on mine and maybe suggsy can add to his rom

Hi srthomas,

I think the app was called USB Host Diagnostics or something like that.

Is it just CM9 that has an option for connecting cameras?

Piers, I know less than nothing about Android.

I only tried the stock rom, Suggsy's 4.0.4 RC1 and Christian Troy's pwn3d.
It looks like a usb support issue, the stock firmware seems to support external storage but not some cameras.

Are you running CM9?

I tried out the pwn3d roms and they were pretty good. The CM9 ones add functionality as well as stability, however it's a tough choice between Christian Troy's work or the roms from Sugssy :(

Piers, I'm running CM9 now, that too supports my camera, it runs nice, although it has a couple of quirks.

If Suggsy's roms had support for my camera I'd probably use them instead :)
Any chance, Suggsy? ;)

Hi guys,

I'm in a similar boat to Nick in that I have an Extreme and I want to connect my Canon camera but having no luck. I have a Canon 550D and I want to purchase the DLSR Controller app too. I've tried the Remote Release app as a test but the app is not recognising the device.

My Extreme is completely stock and despite having it for 6 months (or longer) I've not done anything even slightly fun to it.

I downloaded the USB Host Diagnostic app you mentioned Nick but it didn't seem to suggest any missing drivers, just gave me a list of yes/no answers against some test parameters.

Looking at the XDA Developers thread someone else has mentioned they have the same issue and the dev said the kernel was wrong.

If anyone could give me super n00b advice on how to get this working I'd be immensely greatful!

After a little more digging I found an app called USB Host Controller which tells me 'S3C USB Host driver NOT Found!'

Might this be the one you were referring to Nick? If so, I'm really struggling trying to find out how to get S3C onto my Extreme. Why is none of this ever written in plain English :(
