Re: Android 4.0.4 firmware for the Extreme

HI All

i have been reading this thread for most of the day and ive managed to install this mod which is great thanks for all your help and effort putting it together.

im thinking i may have done something wrong or maybe a known bug but if i try to play tv from iplayer or itv player it doesnt work properly.

itv player just freezes up at random times and iplayer seems to not like playing anything especially if you try to go full screen. normally after about 30 secs it starts to go blocky and freezes up...

is there a fix for this i brought the extreme as it said i could do everything i desire from a tablet... so far i havnt found much it can do let alone what i desire :)

think it may be worth restoring it and sending it back or will there be a fix that will make it actually work with most of the things we want to use..

thanks

From what I have found iplayer isn't that good on any of the ROMs I have tried (including the stock ROM). Its better on my wifes 7" Excel clone.

Frustrating but I have a gut feeling the problem is down to Flash rather than the ROMs themselves. I heard Adobe were not going to continue to release Flash for Android - the sooner it gets binned the better I say then everyone will move to html 5 video which seems to work much better.

Some of the custom roms have had no issue playing iPlayer whatsoever, however that's normally one of the last things to be done by the rom makers. I used one a while ago which was flawless for iPlayer, ITV Player and 4OD but it didn't like gaming

Android 4.0.4 firmware for the Extreme

Any idea what sort of things they do to improve I player in particular or is just flash video in general?

Would love to see I player running as good as it does on my PS3.

Hi piers

Do you remember which rom it was

I don't get a lot of chance to play a lot of games so I could lose this if it means I could watch tv

Ideally google movies, sky go etc is there a rom that supports this as of yet

Thanks jay

Hi Piers, nice to see you back.
I thought you might like to know I got a security alert on this link earlier today.
Probably nothing - but I wonderd if you had ever experienced anything like it.
I expect it is a false alert, but I thought It safest to alet you know.
If it isn't broken then don't try to fix it!

I've updated the flash player as the Iplayer app wouldn't run without it so took the plunge. It is the rev 11 and according to the notes is updated to play with Android 4.0 devices. Last night i was streaming ok and today seems fine too. I will keep an eye on it though :)

Trashcooky wrote: Hi Piers, Thanks for that, there may have been a problem earlier as I see they have now put a "Captcha" on the download which wasn't there earlier today so perhaps their site was targetted whilst I happened to visit it.
Haven't had any further probs so as I say probably a false alarm. Cheers.

Hi Piers

Did you see my previous post about the version of rom you used in order to get good playback of iplayer etc..

im contemplating returning this item and have filled in the RMA details, im just waiting for a reply from them before i send it, if there is a rom that works better than i could possibly use this and save the return :)

thanks

Have you tried using opera mobile set to tablet user agent? iplayer works fine for me on that, I think it's the default setting. I've also removed advanced task manager which seemed to get 5 on demand working in opera mobile as well. I'm sure I read somewhere that it causes a few issues without much in the way of advantages. wish I could remember where I'd read it! itv player also seems to run fine on my extreme as well on 0.8

Anyway i hope you have some luck minijay!
