Well I have the so called "cruddy sub 8Mbps broadband" - Well 5.5Mbps and whilst I can not comment on the Extreme, on the Excel I have no issues with live streaming of content and the router I use is only a G one but I do get speeds of 56Mbps on wireless when upstairs or between 20-46 when downstairs.

Oopps! Browser>Settings>Debug>Browser mode> ....was set to 'iPad'..?!. have now set to 'Android'.

Iplayer now working really well from the browser

I just checked mine and by default mine is set to iPad. Why wouldn't Android be the default and exactly what is this setting going to do?

I haven't changed mine as yet as iPlayer does work from "Request Desktop Site", so I just wanted to get an opinion on the value this will offer. Does it improve the quality of streaming?

Cheers for your help.

Okay, some good comments here so far and I have been playing too. I have discovered that using Firefox or Opera instead of the installed "Browser" works very well. I will keep my device after all :) I have also uninstalled the kill app (app)

The included Browser app seems to use my BT Router at home very slowly whilst my laptop and iPhone are quick to resolve. With Firefox there is hardly any lag on typing, whereas with Browser it's unusably slow and various pages don't even load properly.. it all gets very confused.

I believe in what @dickmorrell says about routers as I have also tried my Extreme on a cheap basic router and it's even better still. If it's true about the stack being old technology, why do that? There always seems to be something to let these opponants to the iPad down. I have bought a few Android tablets now and they have all gone back as I find them frustratingly usuasable. I am a PC IT person and don't do Macs but do find that the iphone and pad still seem unbeatable function wise.. but this thing now gives it a run for the money.

Having read all the replys of people saying iplayer works fine with the extreme i am now wondering if my tablet is quite right.

I am watch iplayer fine for amount 8 mins ish then the image and audio will slow down making it unwatchable.

Has anyone else come accross this?

Ah! Was going to try Firefox but forgot.

Is this a Mobile version of the Browser?

What I have noticed with Opera and Chrome Beta is that they are mobile browsers.

My simple test is to go to the mighty Birmingham City website www.bcfc.com and the default browser goes directly to the main site whereas Opera and Chrome Beta default to the mobile version.

Not an expert by any stretch but I assume that a lot gets stripped out hence the page loading way quicker.

It'd be good to know if FF or any other browser has the richness of a PC Browser yet the performance of a Mobile. Again, not compaining about the default browser but I can certainly see slowness with certain web pages. (Not PS3 slow though!)

@ricky712 google 'user agent' and 'user agent spoofing' eg- http://www.pcmag.com/encyclopedia_term/ ... 641,00.asp
"A Web browser that identifies itself as a more popular browser. When a user requests a Web page, many Web sites check the type of browser being used in order to deliver a page specialized to render correctly. A lesser-known browser may spoof the user agent string and identify itself as a popular browser as long as it renders pages in the same manner."

I'm guessing that the [Browser>Settings>Debug>Browser mode>] is setting the 'user agent string'.... and that for some reason the extreme might be set to 'IPad' rather than 'Android' in an attempt to help web compatibility?! maybe?! :?

In any case, feel free to change this setting around to see if websites/content providers give you better/different service depending on what browser you pretend the android browser is... ;) 'Android' surely must be a better starting point than 'Ipad'

@Mitre my son has not seen his present yet, i am 'configuring' ;) ;) in the evenings after bedtime, in prep for his birthday next week.. I am a bit jealous that he will have an ICS tablet, but I am still running Honeycomb on my Xoom! I have so far resisted the urge to flash the USA based 'google experience' ICS rom to my Xoom...

got mine today and just managed to spend a few hrs on it now, tbh not overly impressed as some are, i think if the price was like 120 then it would be the winner of every argument, but its not that much cheaper than other things available....

the main things that r bugging me r very poor scrolling tried 4 browsers they are all the same, buggy, slow, delayed jerky, definitely not a nice experience to be honest this is gonna override most positive stuff if the main thing you do is surf...,,also the battery seems poor so far but ive nit used it enough to say...

typing is not too bad but a bit of lag from time to time...nowhere near on par wi t the smoothness of htc phone though for screen

internet connection is very poor also, slow as anything on my 50mb fibre connection, considering sending it bqck and getting an ipad considering the price people have mentioned earlier.

i think the main thing that will make me keep it are the tv out hdmi and the fact that hopefully soon someone will start making some nice roms

anyone know why keyboard doesnt seem to predict words even though its turned on??

I would not keep on the hope of better Roms for it, as there is no guarantee there would be, as that depends on who would be developing for the Extreme tab.
