but that wont happen
if you like i can give you the commands to flash the cloakworkmod recovery using terminal emulater on the tablet
you wont need the adb for that
all that the sdk is downloading is the tools for windows to talk to an android device

This is not going well...

I've installed the SDK, havent a clue what I'm supposed to do with it though. Its just a set of menus and tick boxes, telling me I need to install packages, but when I say install they whirl away then say failed....

I cant get the PC to reckonise my Android USB driver, no matter what I do...

That's it... I'm back off that horse, and very reluctant to get back on it..

Surly until I can get the drivers installed its not going anywhere.... Starting to wish I bough an iPad, at least they do what they are supposed to... :(

Thanks for the offer, but need to understand how that will help...

1. The commands you will give me, I type straight into the term emul on the tab Y/N ?
2. If Y, do I need to SU to ROOT first Y/N ?
3. I assume doing that way, I then simply copy to the external SD card and put that in my reader for the PC to copy to another driver for BackUP and vice versa to Flash the New CWM Y/N?

If Yes to all above, YES please I'll give it a go... Using a term emul and keying in Unix like commands is more my era :D

ok you just need to get to a stage where your pc recognises the extreme and you can move files to and from the device from yuour windows machine
what i would do is forget about the sdk for now! as like you say its a lot of downloads to get the short distance where you need to be
have a cup of tea then google pdanet have a read install that on pc
get the app on the extreme and then see if that installs the drivers you need(when i did this for my 1st scroll i never once used pdanet but i could then copy and paste to my android folders when i plugged it in to a usb port
if you can get to this stage you should be able to get to the next

in the mean time i will brush up on my linux and get the commands so that tou or others can push clockworkmod using Terminal emulator app(jack palevik) and you wont need to use the sdk for that
will post back later

1.y
2.y
3.you will need to put the recovery onto the sd card on pc then put the card in the extreme and type the commands in a terminal on the extreme to move the file then reeboot done!

the first thing you need to do is take th card out the device emember to unmount first in settings get it into you pc some how copy two files to it install-recovery.sh and recover.img(from suggst89 cwm folder) just those two files straight onto the root of the sd card then put the card back in the extreme

Cheers Mitre...

Would rather get my PC to recognise the Extreme, but it just wont play ball....

I have a card reader for Micro so can physically plug it into my PC to move things arround, if thats the route I need to go, but yet again, I just feel I'm missing something....

Been a long day, may just have to go back read and rethink...

Thanks again for your help.

Try this driver for the Joytab - I had to use this one at home for some reason as was getting similar problems to you:
