So to be clear the problem is *only* with BBC iPlayer - netflix, youtube etc all stream smoothly?

If so that is definitely something I can live with!

From what I can tell, iPlayer is flakey because it only works if you view the desktop version of the site, which uses a Flash-based player embedded on the page, as opposed to having a dedicated and optimised app of its own.

iPlayer seemed to work fine for me if you load the page, play the video and then DON'T TOUCH ANYTHING! If I paused the video, came out of fullscreen mode or anything at all, the video would lag like crazy until I closed the browser and opened it again.

It might work better in a different browser, perhaps. Personally, I'd never use iPlayer anyway :P

im on my second extreme due to the buzzing on my 1st..
but i still get the same issue when streaming... i player works for a short time then goes distorted and unwatchable.
Netflix is very hit and miss....the actual menu screen is very slow ...(this was same on both extremes)
i stream football to my tv ....to be honest its hit and miss again...monday it was fine (watched 2 matches) tuesday it was a nightmare... I think on the whole there is definately an issue with streaming...as i use that side of things a lot im pondering if it a dealbreaker...cant believe im saying this after my initial impressions were fantastic but im thinking of sending back for a refund...

I think im sending mine back to my has now decided it wont charge to 100% and we have the flash issue as well. Amazon have the Xoom for £246 which is very tempting to me. I do now think i would use a tablet so therefore i might as well pay a little bit more for a solid brand.

I have the atrix phone which has the same process or as the xoom and have no issues with it at all

I concur with @cantisque and @wantefc

If you resize, pause, rewind on iPlayer then guranteed it will go pear.
However, I did start watching the apprentice and didn't touch anything and it went into crazy mode after a number of minutes.

My bro told me about a let me watch this site. I tested the streaming with a film called a monster in paris. And whilst I never sat down and run it from start to finish, I did pause, fast forward, rewind, resize all successfully with no issues.

But very interested to hear what SO have to say in order to resolve this because, IMO, the dedicated iPlayer app is a write off and the website using embedded flash seems to be flaky.

I'm tempted by this but not if it's unable to stream video and output to HDMI.

I'm tempted by either a Galaxy 8.9, a Xoom or even an IPad 2. Even the Ipad is only about £100 more now although that's for the 16gb version. You can jailbreak and buy an sd card adaptor though.

Remember none of these streaming services are officially supported, so it isn't necessarily a dealbreaker if it wasn't part of the deal to start with ;).

If you want to stream stuff to a big TV over HDMI, nothing beats an HTPC for that. For around £350 you can get one that plays all the latest games and chews through every type of video service and format imaginable. Proper Dolby and DTS sound over HDMI as well ;).

I got the Extreme to augment what I already have, as opposed to replace it. For example, I can use it for social networking and web browsing while I am full-screen in either a movie or a game, or sit in bed with it if I need to check something without going on the desktop.

So yeah, I'm not fussed if these media services don't work because I didn't buy it for that. What they have advertised it to do, it does well, so no point moaning about it not doing things it wasn't meant to do :P. The only video service it claims to support is Youtube, which does indeed work fine.

It's an Android tablet so it should at the very least do what all other flash supporting android tablets and phones do and work correctly. If it's not then it's not a matter of what is supported or not supported. It's simply broken.

Quote from ebuyer:

This very capable Android 4.0 tablet comes pre-loaded with Adobe Flash, allowing you to view videos on the web and make the make the most of your online experience.
