Extreme is slow for web and Youtube & iPlayer

Hi All

Got my Scroll Extreme on Thursday and although first impressions were that it was FAB. After a weekend of playing I must say that I am dissapointed with it and may send it back tomorrow.

iPlayer stops and starts, I've tried others tips on setting this up and even standing next to my router but it does not run smoothly. The web is frustratingly slow, I tried to book car hire at Gatwick this morning and it was not usable. Typing is slow, it stops and then cathes up. (My wife and daughter won't use it). Youtube is painfull, timeline scrolling unusable. The volume control is rubbish when watching something where you have to constantly change sound level due to background noises. - The on/off button seems to be at the wrong edge, I have been holding mine with it at the top with the cam at top left.. this seems more natural but the wording on the back is then upside down so probaly not how it was designed. The button should also be chrome so that you can see it easily in low light.

Today I have reverted to my iPhone. Although far too small, at least the web and everything else is quite speedy.

Do I have a bad one? - I have never tried an iPad but presume it is similar to my iPhone only bigger and would probably not suffer from these issues.

I noticed the same problem with the keyboard too. There was quite a delay between the tap and the press actually registering, this might be an Android issue though, as opposed to a problem with the hardware.

I didn't have any issues with Youtube or iPlayer speed though, but I didn't mess with the time slider.

As for web browsing, the only site I had issues with was Newgrounds, where it would freeze for around 10-15 seconds per page before going back to normal.

I have not added any apps other than 3 or 4 of the on borad Scroll ones. I think it is okay to compare with iPad... I have seen the iPad 2 base model for £279 inc. delivery since the new one came out. This Extreme cost me £198 inc. delivery - £80 odd in it and that's against an Apple product. I would expect it to be at leats as good if not better seeing as Apple put such a markup on their stuff.

Build on mine says: 03F2-P1-H2-M01-1796.20120321
ICS 4.0.3
Baseband 1.0

I keep killing all apps but when surfing in Browser most of the time there is a lag and a lot of the time I get "Browser is not responding" if I press "Wait" it usually appears. Lag on typing.. I'm not happy with it at all. It's real shame as it looks and feels just right. The screen is great and battery life is superb.

I cannot say that I've experienced any of this lag so far.

Speed appears fine and web has been ok too.

Might be just a bad egg.

Worth investigating though.

The first thing I did when I received my Scroll Extreme was remove the Task Killer.

I wouldn't say mine was slow, but I'd say it seemed more responsive with it removed. I don't think Android 2.2 and above require's a task killer.
