Boot Photo

Postby KLRichards » May 22nd, 2012, 5:10 pm

It has been asked before but not seen an answer.

How do you change the boot photo so that we can replace the naff Storage Option balloon over the lake with something far more pleasing. Surly it is just a photo that is referenced, so if we knew its location, cant we simply overwrite it.

Please help, I cant stand the balloon anymore, i want to pop it

Regards

Kevin

If you are taking about the photo of the balloon before you get to the home launcher (desktop).

(AFAIR) You have to unpack the boot.img, replace the initlogo.rle (or what ever the name of that .rle is on your tab') with the img of the correct size you want to use in a .rle format, repack the boot.img and then flash it - Messing with the boot.img is risky business.

Changing the boot splash image?

Postby Piers » May 22nd, 2012, 5:34 pm

Does anyone know how to do this on ICS? I have looked around but all I can find is how to change the loading animation, I would like to replace the Storage Options boot image with a different one.
Cheers,

Hi,

The boot logo is built into the boot.img
To change it you would need to decompile the boot.img and replace initlogo.rle,
initlogo.rle is located in boot.img-ramdisk.

Not an easy thing to do if you havnt got a pc set up to do it,

It cant be changed "on the fly" either because any mods to the boot image while running will be reset on next boot.

Im not 100% sure but it may be possible to do with a CWM update.zip to just push initlogo.rle to /dev/block/nandc

Plus you would need to convert the initial image to "raw" format then "rle"
I couldnt even do that myself when i tried it a while ago lol

Here is one I've made to match the ICS colours and gradient.

Thanks guys.

Sounds bit too much for me at the moment.

I'll just close my eyes when the balloon goes up ;)

Can't see your image very well either but what I can see looks a lot better than the balloons!
