Problem connecting Canon Camera

I want to be able to download pix and use DSLR Controller app to control my camera, accoding to Google play, the Extreme is compatible as is my camera (Canon 5D MkII), however my Extreme will not recognise my camera.
The usb ports on the Extreme seems to work as I can connect to a flash drive and a card reader.
I'm wondering if its a root issue...
DSLR Controller needs the Android device to be rooted, how can I check if my Extreme is rooted, and how do I get it rooted if it's not?
I'm running stock ICS 4.0.3 rom.
I'm new to the world of Andriod so any advice you guys can offer will be most welcome.

Regards
nick

The Extreme is rooted from stock, but some apps require an app called "superuser" have a search for it on the market

Then try to run the DSLR app, it then may request superuser privileges, this should in theory work

Go into "settings" in superuser app, then "su binary" or something like that, then update.

Once youve done that there should be no need to use the superuser app again :)

OK, I did that and got the message - Gaining root access... Fail!

Should I try again or does it indicate the device is not rooted?

Yes, it seems it is not rooted like we thought. What mods have you done to it, if any? Or is it totaly stock?

totally stock...
I did a factory reset and tried su again, got the same message, I rebooted and tried again, this time it found the root but got the message - 'Remounting /system as ro... Fail!' 'Failed to remount the system as read only, please reboot to finish update'
I rebooted, but the extreme still will not recognise my camera... :(

I'm interested in getting this to work too so my D600 can be linked up...

I ran a couple of the USB host diagnostic apps on my Extreme (Still stock 4.0.3) and it showed that USB Host support was available but not at Android API level? Doesn't help me much as Mass Storage etc works fine but no camera detected. Tablet at home so can't check exact app or results, relying on memory!

I will try with Suggsy89 ROM soon, nick, have you tried with that? Suggsy89 - think you could get it to work?

Cheers!

Thanks for the info, srthomas.

I have only used stock rom.

My primary reason for getting the tablet was to use DSLR Controller app, if the Extreme can't recognise my cameras I will have to return it :(

Regards

Its rooted mate, for sure 'Remounting /system as ro... Fail!' < that means the system is already mounted as R/W

Why it does not recognise the camera though i dont know.
