Have a look here and see what you think viewtopic.php?f=10&t=2516 - these must have been what I was thinking of but the Extreme ICS 4.0.3 is marked as unofficial so you would probably be the testmonkey on it :)

However, my Excel build is also marked unnoficial and I find it works just great. :D

Hi Trashcooky

i finally got it on the extreme, livesuit did not want to play but eventually stumbled over it and it worked so happy days

just tested iplayer on it ans it didnt work but rememebered i needed to change the user mode in the browser... changed this and it seems to work fine... a few lip sync issues but not far out...

i cant download sky go anymore so i guess play sees that it isnt supported and does not show it :(

i cant seem to find itv player either, is there a tweak that i need to do in order to fool play to show these apps...

i will change the stock browser as this will help a bit im sure...

any other tweaks you can advise would be a big help

thanks

minijay wrote:@trashcooky I've checked the version of iplayer and it is 1.3 as well so it must be down to the build as you said
also the play icon isn't in my apps folder either so I can long press it. the only workaround I have is to put the large widget on the desktop but as this is a advertising app everytime I press it, it goes straight to the app that was showing, not the end of the world just don't understand where it went :-)

minijay wrote:hi trashcooky thanks for this agree it was getting confusing my bad only issue is its the same issue in both versions I posted just before you're reply so not sure if you want me to repost it here or not

Thanks Minijay good move: I don't understand where your Play app has gone can't you simply download the play app from Google play and install it again?
Re the different buildprop I can't think of any other answer as I checked and checked but I see no evidence at all that my BBC iplayer goes through a browser first. There are no defaults set with which to open the app and when I start it I get the iplayer menu screen virtually immediately. The only sign of internet activity at all is when I select play and you get the spinning circle whilst it buffers. Wierd but I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.

Re your idea of possibly downgrading to Honeycombe is almost certainly a non starter.
Although Honeycombe was specifically designed for larger screen tablets I have seen little mention of it on the forum and I believe it was not widely supported before Gingerbread knocked it out.

hi suggsy

I wouldn't say that I would say its more of a limitation of the tablet

I may give youre beta another go and just give up on iplayer

one thing that would be cool is some kind of keyboard tweak the current one is very sluggish and doesn't feel as fluid as it should

Bit too early to know yet Suggsy as I think "Minijay" may be the first Extreme user (other than your Yarvic) who has flashed both your 4.0.4 and then tried your 4.0.3.

I am running your Excel 4.0.3 and it is brilliant. The anomoly that seems to have arrisen from the conversations is that BBC iplayer works fine for most people on their Excels with your 4.0.3 Excel rom but BBC iplayer does not seem to work (so far - I believe "Minijay" is the first to report this) with BBC iplayer on both 4.0.3 and your 4.0.4
I hope this is the answer you are looking for. :)

hmmm.... bbc iplayer is shit fairplay... on my 4.0.4 build the app just redirects to the browser. The custom 4.0.3 i built with a couple of nand dumps which someone kindly provided. I did not fully test the firmware though.

I think the reason why it redirects to the browser is because of the difference in screen size? Maybe the app itself does not support 1024x768. The Excel runs at 800x480 i think... Which is the same as most current android phones...

Regarding the "Play Store" not showing in the "Apps Folder" (when you click the six dots) It never did show if for me... This maybe a limitation in the frame-work or system-ui apps...
This could be the problem

Hope you don't think I was knocking your builds Suggsy, I wouldn't do that as I'm sure you already know. I was just curious that BBC iplayer works for me virtually trouble free on your Excel 4.0.3 rom and I know that the Extreme is not simply a big Excel - but as Minijay was having troubles with BBC iplayer on the Extreme 4.0.4 he tried your 4.0.3 as I reported how well ICS 4.0.3 works on my Excel. Clearly there are many more differences bewteen the tabs and the roms than one may guess? as his poor iplayer experiences no way mirror my good ones.
