Reinstalling the stock ROM

Can I do this by simply replacing the img file of a downloaded unoffical ROM zip with a recovery.img or is it not that simple?

I sort of leaped before I looked by not backing up my own stock because I briefly read it was not essential as one could simply download it.

I'm hoping I haven't messed and all I simply need to do is the above and then boot into into recovery mode.

This would be good to know and hopefully all the above will not be necessary but I'm having a problem (started another thread regarding this) with a CM9 ROM at the moment .

Thanks and hope you can help.

***UPDATE***
Right, well I got my answer and clearly I've got no idea what I'm doing! In the cm9_nightly_20120529.zip which I used to replace the stock ICS, I swapped the img file with one I downloaded called recovery which I believed would make a difference. It has reinstalled to same unoffical ROM as before. I guess I should just keep my hands in my pockets now until someone with knowledge comes along and be kind enough to help me..... please!

I assume from your explanation that you want to get back to the Extreme stock ROM?
Unfortunately I don't think we have one on this Forum but we do have something better:
Try the Unofficial ICS 4.0.3 that has been optimised for the Exterme by Suggsy89
You can find it here: viewtopic.php?f=10&t=2516

Or if you want to try a working beta of 4.0.4 also by Suggsy you will find that using the same link ;)

Thanks very much for your reply and the link, I really appreciate it. Downloading the 4.0.3 now to try, it's slow but hopefully it will complete.

If I need to return my Extreme due to a fault or not being fit for its prupose, can Ebuyer/Storage Options refuse now that it does not have the Extreme stock ROM installed?

It's just that I'm thinking of returning it under the "not fit for its purpose" rule. Ebuyer are advertising this as a "powerful" media tool to stream content from the web but I'm having nothing but problems. Judging by other posts I'm clearly not alone. I don't think they've got any right to refuse except for having a different ROM installed. It's my own fault for not backing it up first and assuming there's one to download.

I haven't given up yet and I REALLY want this to work. A CM9 ROM didn't work for me and I'm wondering if it's possible for me to bugger up the partitions yet still install a new ROM?

Thanks again.

Once I installed 4.0.4 it turned into the powerful media device that is was meant to be. 9+ hour battery for video, 1080p wifi streaming etc. I was actually going to return mine as well, however I decided to give it a chance and now am very happy with the device.

As far as I am aware S.O. will try to refuse acceptance as they say on their website that if you flash firmware you invalidate the guarantee. If you send it back and they find someone elses firmware on it it may spark a row although some people have questioned S.O.'s legal position regarding this as rather like saying you can't updsate windows 95 to Win 7 if you do your PC waranty is null and void. I am not an expert but I suspect you may have a problem. If you can prove the hardware is faulty that may well be another issue, however they could argue you broke it by modding it in the first place.

As far as the buggered partitions go I am not the expert on this subject but I would think if you can still get livesuite to work with what you have left then you should be able to do a format/flash with another ROM of your choice.
If you want the Extreme stock ROM then we need someone with the knowledge to pull what's needed from their Extreme so Suggsy can make the necessary. At the moment we don't have this.

Finally, I know its an old one but they say the old one's are best: quote from you "It's my own fault for not backing it up first and assuming there's one to download." you know what they say about assume it makes an ass out of u and me

I sincerely hope you find a satisfactory solution.

I took backups with CWM and also the NAND things (sorry, not so good at the terminology yet :)) would they help?

I am 99% certain they are stock. Could possibly have just Apex Launcher and maybe simple text etc but otherwise I am sure it's stock.

If this is something we could use I don't mind passing it on if it needs to be in a certain format, or if someone will tell me how to do it.

Will do. Not sure if I have any data on there to be honest :?: All my Nand's are 16,384kb each.

Hi Suggsy89 / Whistler23

I have a full suite of nand* files plus a backup folder made up of .img .tar and .md5 files if needed. Unfortunately i don't believe i have any means to host that much data online but I'm sure there must be some work round if required.

Thanks again for all your help and effort.

The download for suggsy89's 4.0.3 ROM kept reporting unexpected end of archive (only the img was in the zip) so I went for the 4.0.4 but there seems to be newer versions in another post. I'm a bit confused with all the links so can you confirm that I've got the latest one please: I went for the Scroll_Extreme_4.0.4_RC.zip [Version 1.0 RC_1 Stable].

This one, whether it be the latest version or not seems great so far and can echo what Piers has said. I've still got the fracking issue of streaming video through BBC iPlayer's website and possibly others but I feel that's going to be a permanent issue, unless anyone has that running fine?

If I'm to keep the Extreme then I will certainly NOT be putting the stock version back. I only want to keep the original stock ROM on file in case I want to return it for the reasons as Trashcooky has explained. It won't be returned because it's faulty though but because it's not fit for its purpose i.e. streaming video realiably as advertised.

So if those files can be upload for suggsy89 to have a look then that would be fantastic. Apologies for ballsing that up myself. It would be a great thing to have so S.O. or Ebuyer can't use that excuse.

Thanks again for all your help, I really feel the version I have now has changed my outlook now. I feel this tablet has got so much potential for the price. S.O. should be grateful and dish out some rewards to the people who have made it so. I will.
