Hi Guys, need a bit of assistance. Currently running Extreme / ICS/CM9 4.0.4 Christian Troy and have downloaded Let's Golf 3 - quality game as I have it on my phone. However on the tablet the screen is off set so i am unable to select options and the like. Any ideas?

Hi mcevoyt,

I just tried to download this game to see if i could replicate your problem and it won't play as the tablet is non compatable :( i did try to re-install but to no avail. I know there was some issues with playing gameloft and ea games but i'm not sure where it got to so it may be worth trying there :)

Can't be certain - but this sounds awfully like screen resolution incompatability.
I am guessing the the golf game wants a res of only 800x480 which is much lower than the native Extreme res.

Hi Trashcooky - is there no way of changing the res then just so I can play that game, quite annoying - so close yet not so close so to say.

Not that I am aware of in the system. I know there is the allwinner Mod app which changes how Google play sees your tablet by temporarily changing the build. I believe if you chose the phone option available in this app that this should theoretically degrade your tablets resolution but I have no idea how this would look. I would guess on a 9.6" screen very blocky.
I don't even know if it would work at all as I haven't tried it but it is allegedly suitable for the allwinner build tablets.
With the usual warnings in mind you can download the app here: https://play.google.com/store/search?q=allwinner If it doesn't work you should be able to uninstall it afterwards. If you do try it don't forget that after each build/model selction change made with the app that you need to reboot the tablet for it take effect.

its not the screen res ,its the dpi that does it,the scroll is 160dpi,most hi-res phones are 240dpi

you can use allwinner to set the screen to 240,reboot & you will get full screen on LG3,however all touch actions are then offset wrong by about 30mm so its just as bad :'(
on another note, let's golf 2 works fine & is a better game although its not free.

Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't screen res and dpi related ? you change one - and you change the other.

yes and no !! ;)
on a LCD/monitor/display I'd agree sort of ,it doesn't change the res though as such,it changes the scaling of whatever is displayed which to the eye has the same effect.
android (especially ICS) changes the whole display structure depending on the dpi which makes it more complicated,if dpi is set to 240 the os automatically decides the device is a hi-res phone rather than a tablet ,try it if you like,it ends up with a drop down taskbar at the top of the screen & a 5 button menu at the bottom just like a phone.
probs with games regarding screen res/dpi is just plain lazy programming on the developers side, any android device can upscale/downscale easily ,if the software doesn't support it though its no-go :(
let's golf 3 is quite an old title now and to be fair gameloft & ea seem to have got their finger out now as newer titles seem to work absolutely finet

Thanks for your detailed answer it is so nice when people explain things well and makes it easier for others to learn as well. Cheers: :)

I was a little worried it would come across as condescending which it wasnt meant to be & glad it wasnt taken that way,I get on a roll sometimes & cant stop myself - my mrs hates me overexplaining things which I do frequently without realising it ;-)
I only know this as I bought a sensation xe earlier on in the year, which with its wierd 954x572 screen res gave me similar problems when all the other phones were 840x480 or whatever - luckily with the advent of the note ,one x, & galaxy s3 with their 720p hi-res screens & the popularity of tablets taking off the game developers are being forced into integrating better scaling into the games now
otherwise theyd be having to do different versions for all the different phones instead of just 3 or 4 for the different gpu chipsets - its still hit & miss ,you can get most stuff working with the use of allwinner mod & chainfire 3d combined but it can be a case of trial & error,I luckily have such a massive catalogue of android games from the play store with owning a sensation xe,xperia play & numerous other android phones before it that it doesmnt cost me to try stuff,Ive purchased 90% of the gameloft & EA games already.
Just realised Ive been going off on one again ,so Ill leave it there for now ;-)
If anyone does want me to test stuff before they purchase though (its notoriously difficult to get refunds from EA or Gameloft) & I already have the title I will test for them if they ask, might make a post on it to help other members out

EDIT :- Ive just realised something,LG3 the problem doesnt seem to be with the dpi or with the res of the screen as such, its the fact that its 4:3 instead of 16:9!! This seems to be common on quite a few games that run in landscape mode.all the portrait mode games scale correctly ,most with a small black border left & right of screen which give close to 16:9 dimensions
