Can't play MKV or AVI files anymore...

Up until recently I was using the stock ROM along with the free Mobo Player, and I was able to play pretty much every video file I could think of.

Recently, I had a major crash - couldn't access anything - so I had to reset it to factory settings. I then reinstalled the stock ROM and Mobo Player but wasn't able to play MKV or AVI video's anymore.

So I figured this would be a perfect time to try out one of the other ROMs available and have installed the Cyanogenmod 10 Lite (I think).

However I've still got the same problem with AVI and MKV files - the sound will play, but I'll get no picture. I've tried a variety of video players (pretty much everything in the first few pages on the Play store) and nothing wants to work.

Any idea's or suggestions please?

Hi elrichio86, you make no mention of flash player which you almost certainly need to be able to watch video's on you tablet. Do you still have a copy of Flash player on your tablet since you re flashed it?

I didn't think the lack of Flash would have an impact - surely the video players are stand-alone apps? I don't have a copy of Flash right now, but I will get one as its useful to have anyway.

Anyhow, I've switched from Mobo Player to MX Player Pro and that seems to have worked for now.

Yes you are quite right - I was having a senior moment there  but you will need it for streaming until all sites go over to HTML5.
