I got a reply from Storage Options later that day, and after a bit of backwards and forwarding, they agreed to replace it for me.I sent the tablet out on Monday I just got a new tablet sent back through today.
I just been charging the tablet up and have just got it started. The funny thing is, there is no OS branding or pre-installed or pre-loaded apps on this unit and it appears to be running Android 4.1.1 rather than 4.0.4.
Is that normal? Should I be grabbing an image of that?
Unfortunately, another thing I should have perhaps mentioned is that "Storage Options" also have a record of releasing many versions of a named model tablet so even though you may think you have an Extreme II you may in fact have one variation of the Extreme II or to put it another way you may have an Extreme II (a) as example.
There does not seem to be any rhyme or reason why "SO" do this but as an example the original Scroll Excel was advertised with a declared battery capacity of 3,400 mAh whereas my own model actually has a battery rated at 3,600 mAh and for a short while "SO" changed their web description of the Excel stating a battery capacity of 4,200 mAh. The orginal Scroll Essential had a resistive screen whereas it was also marketed with a capacitive screen like the current essential II.
So long as you feel you are on the winning side of things then good luck to you although if there are no pre-installed apps this may cause you an inconvenience - for instance although Flash is no longer officially supported by adobe on android as it is seen now as outdated technology you may still want to use some apps that still require it, but it is no longer widely available to download. Also, do you have access to Google Play store ? None of the Scroll range are licensed by Google so officially there is no access to Play store."SO" used to pre-load their tablets with alternative app download sites but there were back-doors to allow you to access to what used to be Google Market - now Play store.
As far as making an firmware image then yes, if you are able then by all means do so as we don't have any download support for Extreme II stock firmware. I am sure I speak for many who would be grateful if you could host the file on drop-box or the like; or if you would rather I could host a copy in the Hackers playground if you let me have a copy.
If there are any apps or files you might need let me know and I will see what has been saved such as Flash 11. for instance I can host that if needed. Meanwhile, I hope you are happy with your new tablet and the delights of JellyBean.
Perhaps you might consider doing a write up on how you fare with this newer model.
