Essential 7" tablet wifi

Postby PhilG » December 25th, 2011, 10:37 am

Good morning, I bought an essential 7" tablet for my daughter for xmas. This morning when we have tried to use it it will not connect to the wifi. It connects ok to a BT hub signal, but will not connect to my sky netgear router. The router is "seeing" the devices mac address. I have tried different channels on the router. Has any one got any ideas please?

I have exactly the same proble, any help would be great. I note in the instructions it suggests altering the MAC settings on my router, i did so and lost everything so have spent an hour this morning getting my router to work.

Would point out that it finds my connection, but will not connect.Have put in correct WEP code, sometimes have found that things that wont work with a WEP will work with a WPA.

Mine is doing the same, the website storageoptions suggests I download an updated firmware and run it on the tablet, I've tried this but the update fails when I try to run it.
This is really starting to anoy me now.
I'm going to try to connect to a neighbours bt open hub and will let you know how I get on.

Hi, I have the same problem. Just got this unit turned on and it keeps connecting to the sky router then disconnecting straight away. It seems to log into a bt free zone ok. Ive checked all the settings in the sky router and theres nothing obvious that i can see. I have 3 other units connected to the sky router wirelessly with no problems!!
Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

I've tried the firmware as well, I can only guess that it is corrupt. I must admit to being pretty annoyed about this as it was an xmas present for my daughter. I have filled in an online form on the storage options website so hopefully when they get back in I may get a solution!

on another page on these here forums , i does say that the scroll won't work if your wireless channel is higher than 11. Mine is set to 11.
To check, if you type in on windows internet explorer 192.168.0.1 and type in username?password usually written on the bottom of your router, then go into wireless settings, it should tell you what channel you are on.

Would welcome any feedback, cos i'm stumped!

I have just checked with the neighbours BT open hub thingy and it connects no problem so deffo a problem with the SKY router, I have even log into my router and disabled the network key just in case there was a problem with that but it just does the same.
I look foward to hearing from someone in the know.

Yeah,I tried all the channels on the router(originally set at 6) non seem to work and yes I tried disabling the network key on the router as well but again nothing. Router is seeing the device and has allocated an IP address, which i have tied to manually input in to the tablet, but again no success. It seems that the tablet is unable to communicate any "password" information. I even tried to set up an adhoc network with my lap top, both devices can see each other however again unable to pass the password. As the manufacturers web site seem to acknowledge a known fault and has produced a firmware upgrade, I assume that the fault lies with the network circuitry within the tablet.

So i assume that if you disabled the network key, the router does not require a password, therefore the system is open, but still no communication....That at least helps in that i shan't bother trying that option myself.
