though I thought it was a basic principle of computing that given the correct emulation any computer given enough time can perform the programming of any other computer. or is my early 90's ICT diploma that out of date now LOL

Hi TatmanPL5, I am sure your basic principles remain as sound as Newton's gravity and the apple but unfortunately Storage Options don't always do what we might expect and often produce many variations of the (apparent) same named model without obviously declaring what changes have been made (although to be fair these can usually be found on their website and is probably driven by the Chinese builders). This has happened with both firmware versions and even hardware whilst the Scroll model name has remained the same. Unfortunately, this means quite a lot of digging to establish just what you have actually got (despite its model name) or the alternative is risk taking and then finding out what you thought you have is not what you thought at all and you have just flashed the wrong rom. We have even experienced on the forum 2 people who bought the same Scroll tablet from the same source within the same week only to discover one was powered by Telechips and the other by Allwinner A10 Cortex - and one with 2Gb declared ram and the other with 4Gb declared ram.
Not very helpful I know, but he who dares Rodney, he who dares. :D

EDIT

Here is a typical example lifted directly from Storage Options Facebook page
(I expect it will dissapear from there soon if things happen as usual)

"Tom Speirs
Can I point out an omission on your website? I have e-mailed this, but have had no reply and the issue still exists.
The Scroll 7" model 51624 has two completely different firmware revisions - 1.02 and 1.02s (the s having a Samsung chip)
I downloaded and applied the update.zip from your website, which trashed my tablet because the firmware is not compatible.
I finally got the tablet repaired with the aid of scrolltabletforum.co.uk
Perhaps you think older tablets are less important? I don't know.
I do believe however that this should be addressed on your website, and either correct firmware supplied for both, or the single update file removed."
If it isn't broken then don't try to fix it!
