White screen on power down - Essential 7"

Hi, got a scroll 7" essential for Christmas, worked fine and very happy. Then without any obvious cause when powered off (hold power and select power down) or when screen goes 'off' for power save it actually lights up full brightness white, not goes to black 'off'. Obviously runs battery down really quickly having back light on.

Have tried to factory reset, clear cache, reboots, etc. Still goes white on 'power off'. Cant seem to find anything about this on the forums, only notes about white boot screens.

Tried to download the latest firmware from storage works, but it wont install complaining about failed to verify whole-file signature, and signature verification failed. (Android system recovery <3e>)

Tried re-downloading the update, renaming it update.zip, formatting the SD card and trying again, hitting head against wall, etc. Was hoping this screen prob was a firmware issue as it seems to occur outside of android, but since I cant update the firmware cant rule it out :( May need to return the unit if I cant find a fix so nervous to root it if I can avoid it.

Incidentally a 'Check Hardware' in system recovery gives Error! on 2 Touchscreen, 3 Camera, 4 Gsensor, and 8 OTG exist?

Anyone any ideas?

OK, white screen issue seems to have gone away after letting the tablet run completely flat deliberately overnight, and then recharge. I assume this was something upset in memory that could survive factory reset, but not the power down from no battery.

Still cant load firmware, but at least it now working again when we try to turn it off.

Cool thanks, makes me feel a little better. Hopefully the hardware errors are not 'real' ones. Firmware prob some way around it, will chase up Storage Options help-desk and let you know if I get an answer. Not that I can tell if I have the latest firmware as they don't seem to say on the website what version they are offering anyway :)
