Yes an update.zip does check against certain things - but could be modded. What model of Scroll do you have?

Ok nice one, thanks for the info, what are your hoping to mod?

BTW - There are plenty of way to mod this tab, without even having to touch an update.zip :)

I don't know yet remove phone apps, tinker, just mess, thats what modding is all about is it not?
Been looking at recovery.img coz no rzr or cwm yet, bugs me that the scroll's don't seem to be on their radar.
would love to give CyanogenMod a go, i'v turned a linksys slug an a usb stick into a radius server running on debian, to use eap-tls over wifi witch was fun and i just want some fun with my first android device >8^)

I know nix and know there's modding to be done with gl drivers and such but want a safe env to play with so i can recover if it gose tits up

Well after a week of messing and coding i have to say that i'v seen better hardware in a c64 that this device, but what would one expect from a £70 tab, i have sold the thing and i'm getting a tegra 2 1.5mhz 1gig ram 16gb flash from acer insted. as my first android device i can say i was disappointed. over and out.

Have fun, that is a nice tab. Maybe for the 1st one you should have got the Excel for £130 - It's a lot better than the Essential, it does has a few issues, but for the money its very good - plays Asphalt6, with ease.

P.S. It's just 'out' - not 'over and out' - as the latter is stating that you are waiting for a reply (over) and at the same time you have finished the conversation completely (out) ;)

You are absolutely right, I should have done the research first, it is obvious that the Excell is far better and i just rushed into it, all the work you guys have done on the scroll and all, i should have got that one.

The essential is just that, good for light use but not powerfull.

P.S. Right again! out. as in a rom is not a firmware and a firmware is not a rom..
