Scroll Essential - playing video from network over wifi?

I've tried using my Scroll Essential to play xvid video from a PC on my home network. I can navigate to the share and select the file and it plays but it's very stuttery. The file I tried is 624x352 170Mb. The same file plays fine if I put it on an SD card so I'm wondering what the problem is playing accross my wifi?

I'm using ES File Explorer to browse my network, then Open As Video which offers me ES Media Player, Films (camera), or Films (gallery). All play the same.

If a Xvid file is jerky, it could be a compressed file. Use MPEG4Modifier.exe to sort it out

Very confused! I can see MoboPlayer for x86, and lots of codec packs but no Mobo player for other Android devices. This is in market.
