Scroll Essential subforum?

Since the Essential is more or less the same as the Excel (apart from the screen and maybe battery) would it be possible to get a forum for that model as well?

Your link and comment implies the same CPU and GPU but these need to be supported by good spec hardware to make them sing. Your implication that these devices are similar is only (surface) true of the most recently issued Essentials.
As late as January this year they were still shipping the Essential with a Telechips processor also the earlier models only shipped with 256 Mb of user ram. Although Storage Options may be showing the same processor in both models it runs at 1.0Ghz on the Essential where-as the Excel runs at 1.2GHz and although SO state the same amount of ram as the Excel, but it is DDR2 on the Essential and DDR3 on the Excel.
Because the Essential is only half the price of the Excel there is bound to be many limiting differences between the two.

Really this re-inforces your point about the possibility a sub forum dedicated to the Essential but as allready stated it is up to Admin and of course finding out exactly how many of you out there have actually got an essential.

Also, there is already a link for older models: viewforum.php?f=42

Mine runs at 1.2 with DDR3, I checked as soon as I received the tablet. I wouldn't have said they were the same unless I was 99% certain and I definitely wouldn't have just used the link on the Storage Options site, but maybe I should have said all of this in my first post.

Anyway I seem to have destroyed one of my Scroll Essentials, good thing I bought two!

firstly apologies piers i hadnt realised the essential had been upgraded to an allwinner a10 device
it only mentions it on the spec page
TBH it could well have the same internals as the screen is the most expensive item and who knows what the markup is on excel

@Piers, This is very interesting - I wasn't doubting your word or anything, I am just a little surprised.
With your hardware set-up as you have described, does the Essential now support Flash?

I flashed ICS to it and all works EXCEPT the touch part of the touchscreen :P. So it looks like they are pretty much the same device...now if only I could find the correct resisitve driver somewhere then it would no longer be bricked!

suggsy89 has helped me a lot but there doesn't seem to be a ICS compatible driver anywhere for the resistive touchscreen :(

Supports flash and market out of the box.
