Scroll Essential II and Google Play

Hi all,

I just bought a Scroll Essential II. Though the guy in the shop said it had Google Play on it, on the box it only mentions Slide Me. I'm newbie to tablet and Android, but I heard that if the device does not originally have the Google Play on it, there was no way to install it. On the other hand, I found Slide Me no interesting at all. Not many useful apps there (at least for me) and not a good website to look for apps.

So, long story short, does any one of you have any idea that this tablet has Google play in it? I have not opened the box so that I could return it back.

Thanks and regards,
Rasul.

There's been a Google Play Widget already installed in the widget list for my Scroll Excel, Scroll Evoke and Scroll Pocket.

Can't see why you'd not have it on your Essential II.

Google Playstore can be side-loaded but you will need to find a copy to download first.

I have not opened it yet. I meant it does not say that on the box and instead it says enjoy Slide Me, which I didn't find it enjoyable.

Thanks.

Hi Trashcooky,

Does it not mean a hassle? I'm surfing the web for this and finding a lot of comments for that solutions that say it didn't work. I like storage options but it seems Gemini Gem7008 should have less hassle having Google play origianlly on itself. Am I wrong that most of the useful apps are on only Google play store?

Thanks.

You are correct in stating that none of the Scroll tablets "officially" support Google Play store but as Storage Options state that Google Play is not supported in their advertising on their web site it is possible that they may consider your trying to return the tablet because it does not have Google Play store immediately available as an invalid reason.

It is impossible for me or any one for that matter to say if your particular tablet actually has the means for you to access Google Play store or not as Storage Options have a nasty habit of changing things during a sales run. Therefore what you buy this month may not be entirely identical to buying the same model next month. Some Scroll tablets for instance come rooted straight from the box whilst others don't.

As far as it being a hassle for you to put Play store on the tablet if it isn't at all available depends on how tech savvy you are. Unfortunately, most box built tablets are unlicensed by Google so many are not officially supported by Play store but also most of them can be used on Playstore but there are usually some minor hoops to jump through to set it up.

The only guaranteed way to get a tablet that will definitely have the Play store app pre-installed is to buy a branded/licensed device which costs a lot more money than a Scroll.

The decision to send it back or keep it remains a choice only you can make and whether it has Playstore available via a pre-installed widget or not will remain an unknown unless you open it and see. No one can advise you beyond that. Unfortunately for you, trying to make a claim as unfit for purpose will probably fail as the product is as described.

Thanks very much Trashcooky for comprehensive reply.

I just went over and checked the sample in the shop. I had a Play store on it! But, I there was no connection to test. Does its presence means it fully functions?

Regarding licensed devices, even Gem7008 I talked about is not in Google's list. So, I think these are both the same in that respect.

Thanks and regards,
Rasul.

The fact that the tablet in the shop actually had Play Store on it sounds hopeful as if it is on the tablet it should work once you have registered the device with Google by creating a gmail account and password to set an account up - (unless you already have one on a phone or something in which case you can simply use the details from that)
