Root and USB Drivers

My Scroll Elite has just arrived!

I bought this one to test it out with a view to getting a bunch of them for a project at work but I need to be able to root it, no need for a custom rom though, and also find usb drivers for it so I can develop an app on it.

Is the guide to root the Extreme likely to work? http://scrolltabletforum.co.uk/site/viewtopic.php?f=58&t=2457
Any idea where I can get usb drivers for it? I tried the ones bundled with the android sdk and a few others I googled but no luck.

Actually, I just tried the driver I download for my HTC one X and forced windows to install it and it seemed to work.

I would still need to root it and I guess that I will just try the guide for the Extreme anyway, maybe I was just looking for some reassurance....

has it been confirmed that the elite is not pre rooted from the factory as all the other alwinner tablets have been?

I didn't think to try that but I won't get a chance until later tonight. I assume I should just try installing titanium backup or some other app that needs root?

Ok, it seems I was carried away a bit by the google play app installing! It work until I try to install an application then it just closes. Anyone have any ideas if there is a fix for this?

On the plus side, the elite does have root access out of the box! This is my first tablet so never thought to check.

Just an off the wall comment. You mention you may buy several of these tablets for a project.
You should be aware that Storage Options has a habit of releasing different builds of what seems at face value to be the same model with the same name. Sometimes this is not simply a build difference in the software but can involve a significant change to the hardware too. Just gentle advice to try and buy all your tablets alltogether from the same source as things change so quickly that I would rather bet money on you getting a bunch that aren't all absolutely identical as I would to betting they are all absolutely the same, unless you move quickly and use the same source :)

It's always the same with anything made in China because they tend to use whatever is at hand rather than get components from the same source and making sure they are identical.
