WiFi connectivity

Postby smedley » December 22nd, 2012, 2:50 am

Can anyone help me!?

Having some major issues with my Scroll Elite tablet. I'm trying to connect to my home network, but just keep getting "obtaining IP address". Have already tried changing the channel on the router (Belkin N1 wireless router) for numerous different channels but this doesn't help either! I'm at the point where I'm about ready to pull my hair out, GRRR!!!

Any suggestions/solutions!?

Thanks in advance

A few thoughts :

1) Can you connect from any other device ?
2) What form of Encryption does the router use ?
3) Can you tell if the channel is in use by other networks, e.g. by using InSSIDer on a laptop ?
4) Are you sure you have correctly entered the network credentials ?
5) Do you have a rock-solid signal when you are trying to connect, i.e. by being physically close to the AP.
6) Does the router have MAC filtering in use ?
7) Does the Belkin have any access logs that will help you get to the bottom of the problem ? - they could for instance show if/why a connect request did not result in DHCP assigning an IP address.

Right....

1)Yep, my PC, phone, kindle, Wii, PS3 all seem to connect without any issues.
2)Currently using WPA2.
3)As far as im aware its not!?
4)Obviously thats a yes!
5)Again, yes, tried it sitting next to the router, in the same room, in an ajoining room, upstairs and outside, all with no luck.
6)Nope, not set for MAC filtering.
7)Not checked that one, didnt actually think about that, will give it a try....

Will post again if can't find a solution there.

Just another thought - what is the SSID for your network ? I came across problems with one network where the SSID included a punctuation mark. My advice is to restrict name to letters and numbers only.

I hadn't changed to SSiD from the default setting, but will try changing it as it does include _ within in. Will give that a go when I get back from work. The other thing I was going to try was using a static IP, not too sure if this'll resolve it though!?

For what I paid, this is a fantastic tablet, but I am now starting to regret my purchase. Seems like it's been one problem after another with it.

Finally got this all sorted now, haven't changed the SSiD but managed to get it to work using a static IP address instead. Now if I can just get the Google Play store to work, I'd be one happy chappy!
