CWM and custom ROM for Elite 9.7

Postby merkmcmadman » January 3rd, 2013, 10:22 pm

Hi,

First post here really just looking to pin down the Elite and see what we can do with it.

Great Tab for the money but let's face it we all need CWM and cutom ROM.

Where I am:
I've managed to install a few different versions of CWM recovery. First being the SO Scroll Extreme version then tried the Allwinner 10 version. All flashing just fine and booting fine from either virtual terminal commands allowing me to backup the ROM.

My problem is that unfortunately I can't access CWM from power off so obviously don't want to flash CM9, CM10 or play about with any other ROM until I know that I can access this without the use of android OS.

Many people say that the Extreme is so similar that everything should port over, however this is not the case.

Can anyone who has managed to boot CWM from power down and flash custom ROM's in a safe manner help me and other out?

Many thanks! ;)

Does anyone know how to access CWM using a combination of buttons from boot?

Surely someone knows how or knows how we can find out.

Any help appreciated!

I only scanned your post but unless I have missed something you have CWM on your tablet but don't know how to access it?
1. Turn tablet off
2. Try holding down the volume+key and the power key together and don't let go until you see the clockwork mod screen.
3. if 2 didn't work and the tablet booted normally then substitute the volume+ key with the menu key and try again.
4. if neither of these or other key combinations worked then either you have a busted key or you don't have clockwork mod installed.
If it isn't broken then don't try to fix it!

Thanks for the reply trashcooky!

CWM is installed and can be accessed through terminal: sh reboot-recovery.sh

When booting from terminal it works fine and boots straight away.

Also when in CWM I have managed to make a backup of the current rom, also checked keymapping and all keys are working fine.

I just can't boot without using terminal.

I'm used to modding android with my HTC so do have a basic knowledge of how it all works but have no intention of using this device without custom ROM's installed.

I could use Livesuit however have not found usb drivers that work yet and CWM is just more comfortable for me.

All I'm looking for is someone who has modded an elite to throw some info in to help me and others.

Once again any input is appreciated!

To update I have managed to install and play around with CM9 and CM10.
Both work seamlessly on the Elite CM10 had problems running games so installed CM9 with works better.

Everything seems to be working apart from the G sensor (I have tried a few compatibility packs but none were successful), which I'm not too bothered about.
I've countered that by downloading a manual screen rotation app for when portrait mode is needed.

I'll update if I can get it all working but if anyone would like a walk-through then I'll post to help people out.

Hi - I'd really appreciate a simple step by step guide to installing CM9, including links to any tools and images used. Thanks.
