Rooting yay or nay

Has anyone Rooted there Scroll yet (I'm sure this is an yes) - is there much point to it if I'm not that techie?
(I'm just trying to understand the pros and cons for voiding my warranty)

Hi,

My 1st gen scroll is rooted and all my Android devices are too. You don't have to root, it's personal preference.

Root (superuser) is the linux version of windows Admin - but has more power that an windows admin.

With superuser access, you can do a lot more, most for the better (if you really want to tinker and mod) but if you don't know what you are doing (ie delete an important file, and have no backup) you can render the device useless.

ok cool, I'll have a think, to be honest the more I have used it the more I have got it to do what I need/want, I would like to better the wifi on it and say figure out a user friendly file system (I seem to have a problem hooking up a card reader to it, so I can move helmet cam footage to it for viewing) but other than that I am geting on with it better..

Everyone says when you root it - it's more powerful or superuser access but what douse that mean? What would it give me better access to do?

have a google for "apps that need root" or read this http://www.androidpolice.com/2010/04/15 ... oid-phone/
if you dont want to use any of those apps and your not a techie you prob dont need root

If you are talking the Excel, then it already seems to be rooted?
I managed to mount the system folder as read/write and delete the useless phone system apps. It seems to have my improved my battery life too.
I used ES File Explorer, with root enabled.

if you look in HEXHUNT'S signature you can see he has the 8" SE scroll

if you put your scroll version in your signature it helps others know what your talking about
BTW what phone apps did you remove cos on the old resistive they had to be removed in a certain order with a reboot in between and even then made mine unstable so i put them back

Sorry for the delay.
Yes. Go to settings in es explorer and tick the root option.
Also select mount system as read/write if you want to delete these files.
Use with caution. If you are unsure I would recommend leaving well alone

Nice to know it does, but I'll take your advice and won't be changing anything until I know more what I'm doing.
