Changing the Android Boot Animation

Postby Detection » January 6th, 2011, 7:37 pm

Ok I have successfully changed the ANDROID boot animation to one with a screaming droid lol

The animation is not the right size, but is displayed correctly if you are holding the tablet lengthways

A bit of fun for now, but another step toward a fully custom tablet (Going looking for the splash screen now)

These are the instructions I used from xda-developers

RENAME THE DOWNLOAD TO "bootanimation.zip"
----

first copy bootanimation.zip on your SDCard
run terminal
and write
#su
#mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system

(now you can write to /system)
("browse" to location, where you have copied bootanimation.zip, if it is in root of your card)

#cd /sdcard

(you can check if it is there)

#ls

(now just copy it)

#cp bootanimation.zip /system/media
---

Just need to either edit the image to be at the correct screen rez, or find some tablet bootscreens premade

You wont find any that are landscape (unless you make your own which is not actually very hard)

Yea I extracted the bootanimation.zip and it consists of 2 folders and a text file

part0
part1
desc.txt

part0 has all the pictures for the first part of the animation, part1 has all the seconds pictures for the second part and the desc.txt has the size of the images and folder names

I tried just changing the image size in the desc.txt - and flashed that, but it somehow reverted back to the original stock boot animation

@Detection

does this get rid of the welcome message too or just replace the animated android on boot?

No, the welcome screen is still there, it just replaces the animated ANDROID word bootscreen

Im on a mission to completely customise the whole boot process, even the scroll screen, although I dont think that will be possible until someone cleverer than me finds out where in the tablet it is stored

ok thanks for the info - i don't mind the scroll logo or the animated ANDROID word, just hate the 'welcome' word that pops up.

Detection teh Scroll screen is not stored somewhere you can change easily... it ill probably be in the boot Image so I would not bother tring to change it if I were you

Yea I thought it would be - someone will no doubt make an app to change it someday

Managed to change the Branding one from my phone, so I guess it is possible with the right tools
