mnt/sdcard or /sdcard

Whats the difference between /mnt/sdcard and /sdcard
Is it that mnt /sdcard is a pseudo sdcard installed on the device its just that i put astro on and it started backing up to /mnt/sdcard so i changed in astro settings to /sdcard and now ive got duplicates in both folders can I delete mnt/sdcard ?

mnt/sdcard is how it is seen by the OS. sdcard is what is seen by, say, usb connection. They are essentially one and the same thing.
