Newbie questions on Stylus and Start-Up/Power On/Off

Postby Rickrandom » June 19th, 2011, 7:34 am

I have numerous PCs, including some where I dabble in Linux, and have had various Psion devices etc over the years, but I've never had an Android device before, and my phone is 10 years old, so I have a new learning curve since getting the Scroll on Friday. Hopefully somebody can help me up that curve.

1. Where is the stylus? I've seen lots of posts about how to extend it, etc, but I can't even find it! In the box, I've got the Scroll, the charger, 2 USB cables, and some headphones. (And the very brief manual.)

2. How do I turn off and start up the Scroll such that it keeps where I was before, even if it goes fully off? I seem to have the choice of a brief press if it has been unused for some minutes, and it comes back as I want, but if it has been off for a longer time, e.g. overnight, then it needs a long press (a short press does nothing), and then does a full boot. Is it simply that I am pressing it wrong?

Thanks in advance.

FWIW I bought mine from ebuyer http://www.ebuyer.com/product/248896 for £130 6 days ago and it's already £40 less! I always adopt the philosophy with technology that if I am prepared to pay a certain price, then I don't care how much the price comes down later.

Hi, and welcome to the forum.

Answers to your questions:

1) Mine came with a small stylus in the box, if you bought yours from ebuyer and they advertised it with a stylus I suggest you contact them and ask that they send you one.

2) The scroll will go to sleep and lock the screen after a pre-determined time, a short press will either sleep it or wake it up and it will be where you left it.
If you leave it sleeping for a long time it will turn off and need fully rebooting to function.
The likelyhood is that the battery will die if its left on overnight and need recharging.

Hope this helps
Dave

OK, that helps, thanks.

1. The ebuyer website doesn't mention a stylus, so my tough luck! I has guessed it was a standard feature.

2. OK, so I'm not missing some trick about powering it back on. It just works in a different manner than I was expecting.

If you go to settings and select "Power-off timer" you can change the delay before the device turns off, or as I prefer "Never off".
