Semi-broken 8" Scroll 51951 - need update.zip

Postby kieranc » August 8th, 2011, 10:56 am

Hi there,
I've had this scroll for a couple of weeks and had CM7 running ok on it but decided I wanted a few more things to work (video playback....) so I tried to revert back to the original firmware. I had made backups of a few partitions so I tried restoring them to no avail, then I found the stock images available on here so I tried restoring all but the recovery partition, still didn't work but still had CWM. I then flashed the recovery partition and it still wouldn't boot but I can get into the stock recovery just fine.
What I need is an update.zip to restore the original firmware, SO seem to have removed them from their site (I've emailed them) but I was wondering if anyone can clarify which build I'd be best off using? I think I had 1.02 originally.
So, anyone got an update.zip? Also, any ideas why it doesn't work? WHen I was doing flash_image it said the headers matched on some partitions, I'm seeing that as a fairly good indication it's the right firmware....
Thanks!

Right, I've managed to reinstall CWM via the stock recovery and have restored my CM7 backup. I'd still like to go back to stock, or be able to at least, I've found this: http://www.storageoptions.com/assets/docs/update.zip which is meant to be 1.02 firmware but I'm not sure if it's for the 7" or 8", or if it matters. I'm getting some "assert failed" errors trying to install it, are they safe to ignore?
Thanks!

That is for the 7 inch resistive screen model but its meant as an upgrade for the older 1.01 firmware. I believe it checks to see if you have the older version first.

As you have the 8" one my guess would be not to ignore the warnings.

Hokay. I got bored, it didn't work. Still have my recovery intact though. Where can I find a complete update.zip for the 8"?

Well, that's an interesting development. Storageoptions don't have the firmware for it.

Good afternoon,

Unfortunately we do not have the firmware available.

We can replace the unit under warranty if this is acceptable please respond to this email and we will send you the warranty request form

So... turns out the distibution centre is half a mile down the road. Picked up a fresh replacement.
Here's a CWM backup of the stock OS if anyone else needs it:

Great news kieranc! Excuse the stupid question, but would I just copy that zip to the root of my sd card and use the restore option under CWM? I am currently running CWM with CM7. Would this bring me back to a vanilla system?

EDIT: I worked it out by doing a backup of my Scroll under CWM and looking at the files that were on the sd card. All restored and working. ;)

P.S. There's a new 8" scroll running Android 2.3 on the Storage Options web site so perhaps that'll get us all a bit closer to v2.3 on these initial devices. Assuming of course SO release the source...

Hi kieranc,

I've applied your "Stock Scroll 8 51951 CMW Backup", but after turn on no sign "WELCOME" appear. Then the "Scroll" turns off itself. I've tried to restore many times. Do you have some another "Stock Scroll 8 51951 CMW Backup" I can try to restore?

Thank you in advance for your reply.
