Outside of official channels, will the only way to upgrade these devices involve using adb? Or will people have a more user friendly way of doing it in the future without resorting to dos batch files and usb drivers?

No they cant. Clockwork backs up all user data as well.
Just wait until someone (probably me at this rate) posts up stock system images

Detection can you update your first post to state that it will ONLY reset the user data and not the system Image of the device.

Surely if they have not entered any user data it would work fine ?

Yea I`ll update my post, along with the "correct" instructions..... I got an email from Storage Options appologising that it should be Power off / Power on holding the Volume + button

what is clockworkmod backing up - is it the whole image of the tab in its current state?

Yes it is backing up its current state so all user data is included so dont post your backup!

The offical recovery image presumeably does SOMETHING although ti dosent really seem to...
The custom way always needs ADB drivers and a recover image... The batch files were to make the proces easier lol I need to do a bit of work on the process though to make it simpler.

It would be nice to have an "update.zip" that people can apply using the factory maintenance mode that puts 2.2 on for them :)

I would assume Storage Options would have to do it that way if they ever gave us an update.

They would not give us an update.zip they would give a proper install package that would reboot the tablet, flash the new system image and then reboot it again :)

The reason we use clockwork is because (I think dont quote me) we cnanot sign the packages? or something im kinda guessing that. Also Nandroid is amazingly useful. the other advantage of update.zips is they can be anything from deleting a few apk files to a comple system replacement.

Once someone has backed up using ClockworkMod with a completely stock device, they can post their backup here and we can all have a stock Scroll again whenever we like

Say if i was to do this -

1. rename phone apks back

2. un-root with z4root

3. factory reset

4. double check all user data is gone.

5. do the clockworkmod

6. would i then have a fresh stock backup that i could share on here? (no personal data on it - also it might be missing the stock youtube.apk or still have the better newer version i have installed in system/apps)

Sorry that is what I meant, someone with a stock, untouched except clockworkmod tablet

I didnt reset mine, I was talking with a guy from S.O about the calibration, it messed up my touch after I ran it, so I used that opportunity to ask about the hard reset, and also asked him for the stock 2.1 image for the device, which is promptly ignored lol

Calibration is still not perfect, buttons at the very bottom of the screen are very difficult to press now

That would give you a close to stock Image I guess but there is no need for one at the moment. everyone who has installed clockwork should have created their own backup and there is no real custom roms out to bugger anything up yet.
