Hi smarthousesys,

We should have a fix for any 8 inch problems that you're experiencing. Please contact support for assistance. You might be surprised that a problem has been addressed since you last contacted us? I'm just guessing but I've been assured we have fixes for problems such as you describe.

If you want a 2.3 OS version then please contact our support team and we'll send it to you, but very much at your own risk, outside of warranty cover. The likely outcome is you bricking the Scroll completely unless you really know what you're doing. This is why we don't make the full OS (and indeed the patches) available to download freely, despite what some of you more advanced users may feel, we don't think it would be the best idea to offer a free to all download - 2-3 units a day were being ruined simply because customer were installing the Scroll Gen 1 patch on a miScroll (or whatever)... Far better, we feel, to talk to the user, establish EXACTLY which product the customer has, then send the patch directly.

With regard to bezels, quite simply we don't have stock in the UK so it would mean specifically ordering them from China. Are you perchance a reseller? Are you trying to offer a repair service or something? It may seem a "simple" matter but to be honest I wouldn't really want to put something into stock unless I thought there was a real benefit - why do you think we should have them? How would they benefit you? Having said that I'm sorry if you've been shabbily treated or spoken to dismissively by anyone - obviously this isn't on... Please DM details (names) if you have them.

I hope that helps.

Paul

Hi gazzy21uk,

As far as I know that chipset won't ever support Flash. Believe me if would could do something to get that working we would.

Sorry that's not what you want to hear.

Hi Fonefixer,

Firstly thanks for being such a great to so many of our customers of the past few months. I know you haven't always been happy with us (I've read many of your posts) and you are one of the main reasons I wanted to do this.

Your first question is the one I have been most expecting! Quite simply, Google will not licence us for the offical marketplace. We've asked several times and as far as I know we don't get anything other than automated replies, with a clear "no". The only time they have ever spoken to us was at the CES show in January when my boss collared someone demo-ing Android 3. What we were told then was that Google were overwhelmed with requests from tablet manufacturers and simply had put a blanket stop on access being issued. Their reasoning is to do with app compatibility and who customers will approach for support - they desperately don't want it to be them...

We were told that Android 3 (specifically made for tablets as it is) would eventually be licensed more freely - but as yet we haven't even got an official Android 3 release to play with.

So the bottom line is, we are where we are with the market and we do our best to make as many apps as possible available through other methods. Not ideal, but we hope, on the whole we're still able to offer good value for money. I'd love to charge you another £20 a unit though :-).

As for the code I need to look into this. I know that the person who originally decided to release what we did is no longer with us (he's not dead, he left the company!) and it's feasible that his opinion on the matter was wrong - i.e. we should release the whole lot. With respect to him, he protected it for valid commercial reasons and having worked with him on a number of things it would surprise me if his decision was wrong - breaking a software licence would haunt him for the rest of his days. I can explore this further if you want me to - do you still want it?

Finally the true origin of the Scroll. They have all come from the same factory in China which I won't reveal here if you don't mind. We have the UK exclusive on the base hardware of all Scroll models, from this factory, but it would not surprise me if certain components were shared across several tablets (possibly the CherryPad included, but I can't say this is one I have heard of before) as our factory will buy and source components from other manufacturers. What I can say with some confidence is that the Scroll package (whichever one you have) is unique in a number of ways - miScroll has our moulding which we now licence back to the factory - we rearranged the components to make later versions of Scrolls more reliable - the software builds are uniquely ours etc. etc.

So a no, but it's more complicated than you may have realised!

Hi Mitre,

Glad to hear your Scroll is surviving well!
We don't have plans to offer an upgrade at the moment - as I understand it's not a simple process to upgrade and not something we can really support. Sorry.

Hi Paul me again sorry,
I was expecting a bit more of a technical answer than that because flash seems to work on youtube and the beeb player used to work and suddenly stopped, I'm wondering if i've hit a bit of a raw nerve with that question for such an abrupt answer
even your new tablet seems to be blocking full flash access through the browser I'm wondering if all this no market and no flash is just a bit of a tease.
now your saying android 3 is going to eventually fix the market but i'm a bit of a skeptical about that I'd would say to anyone buying a tablet to make sure the browser supports flash and market is working and don't fall for empty promises lol .

Hi Paul,

Thanks for your answers. I have to say it does seem odd to me that when the Scroll was first launched there was no mention of a non-working market. If I remember it took some time for a statement to appear on your site about this. In my view it should have been made clear from the outset.
I would suggest the release of the full SDK / Firmware would be a good idea. As you know Android is highly customisable, and owners or developers fully understand the warranty issues involved.
From a business point of view, having extra developers working on your products for free may greatly benefit your company.
At the moment, my original scroll is consigned to a drawer. The battery has had it, and I'm looking at my options for a replacement. Perhaps organising some discount for forum members would be an idea worth consideration.

Once again, thank you for coming on the forum and assisting us.
Dave

Hi Paul
Thank you for your reply. I dealt with support a few months back as somedampness managed to get between the
bezel and the lcd. I was using the very slighly damp cloth to clean as specified. There is as i ponted out at the time
a manufacturing defect in the Scroll in that the sticky tape that secures the bezel to the lcd in not continuous.
The gaps in it allow any tiny amount of dampness to move to the lcd via capillary action. In fixing this I slightly damaged my bezel and wanted a new one to replace it. I am a private user and not a repairer. The bezel though covered with a protector is subject to wear(its just plastic not glass) the protector wears out you remove it and the the bezel is subject to wear. Thats the reason I feel you should stock bezels. Its easily replaced using the same double side sticky tape that your manufacturer uses

On 2.3 I sent an email to support a couple of weeks ago and got zero response. It would be a simpler and i would feel more reassured of a response if you could please pass my request directly on to your support group. My email address is as specified.

Also if there are fixes for the wifi dropout problem can you ask them to email them directly to me.

Thank you

Hi smarthousesys,

I see your problem but it really would be very difficult and expensive for us to obtain replacement bezels so unfortunately I cannot help with this.

I don't understand what you're saying - how can I find your email address? I would like to look into this missing email and speak to you directly. I've asked the guys to have a look at this but at the moment I don;t know how to cross-ref your forum membership with your email.

Thanks.
