New Scroll 8"

Postby Gareth » December 6th, 2011, 11:09 pm

I just puchased two 8" Scrolls from Ebuyer for my kids Xmas presents. Here are the details:

Scroll 2 (SCR051951)
Android 2.3.3
Version Unknown
Kernal 2.6.35.7
Build P82B-T0-S3-H02-1087

I've looked around the forum a bit and I would like to Root the Scrolls to get rid of unwanted apps and get the most out of them.
I've had a quick go with z4root and superoneclick but no joy. So my question is can this model be rooted and which of the many HOW TO guides am I best following?
If they aren't rootable is there anything I can do to get rid of the phone apps at least?
Thanks in advance, this is a bit like ariving late to the party :)

Step 1) Enable USB Debbuging in Settings>Applications>Development and plug into your computer.

Step 2) When it asks for new hardware found click "I'll choose driver" and point to this file http://www.megaupload.com/?d=YPUTUZTP It should install as "ADB Composite device"

Step 3) Download the latest version of Superoneclick

Step 4) The options in Superoneclick should be like this http://gyazo.com/383860f724a55ac7e040ca12bc19bf51
Click on "Root" (Not shell root just "Root")

Step 5) It will give you an error message saying you're already rooted, just carry on (Make sure USB Debugging is still on) and it will successfully root and reboot. If you get a loop of the animation on the first reboot, don't worry just turn it off by holding down the power button and turn it back on.

Step 6) You're successfully rooted :)

Tried installing the driver but it was asking me for WinUsbCoinstaller2.dll bypassed that.
Installed superoneclick 2.3.1 clicked root it starts but then becomes non responsive.
Any suggestions?

Sorry about that forgot to upload that. Here's the whole folder, use the "Androidwinusb" Inside this folder than I've uploading otherwise it won't work. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=1SY6UFO8

So firstly uninstall the driver for adb composite device from device manager (First plug in with usb debbuging enable) and choose the androidwinusb.inf (The setup information one) inside the folder that you just downloaded and then just carry on from step 3.

That worked a treat, thanks very much Dilzo. Now which is the most up to date guide on streamlining the Scroll? Or is it still the same as last year?

Haven't deleted anything yet, get around 70mb ram free most the time and that's enough for me :D but yeah it's probably the same as last year as the 8" still has the phone apks for some reason.

I've just followed the Clockworkmod recovery guide. Now when I try to boot in recovery mode it freezes on the white splash screen.
I've installed ROM Manager Premium v4.7.0.3 which has the option to boot into Clockworkmod recovery built in but that does the same.
I don't want to start changing stuff until I know I can fix it.
Can anyone give me an idea how to get it to work?
