Hi & welcome to the forum,

No this is for the older Scrolls on Android 2.1 (DON'T follow the instructions on the 1st page for the Excel) - It seems that the Excel comes pre-rooted as per the reports from a few members on here that already have one - I can not confirm as I don't have one.

There is no thread for rooting the Excel at the moment, as it has been reported to be pre-rooted, so yes you would need to install the superuser app, to fully use root.

cheers mate.

as i havent got mine yet i cant confirm how easy/hard it is to fully sort/use root. if there are any more knowledgable people with one, it would be good for someone to confirm and if it needs any sorting more than just installing superuser, someone may be able to sort a guide?

thanks again, marc

Aye, That is a good idea.

I was going to do some guides for the new Excel, but I don't have one and probably won't be able to get one. As I just don't have the funds for the foreseeable moment.

Hey guys,
I've got the new scroll excel 545485 ICS 4.0 and really want to try this out so that I can improve my system performance and because currently i can't update the youtube app. I'm a total newbie so all I've managed to do at the moment is check whether its rooted through typing su in the terminal which I got #. Which if i'm not mistaken means its rooted right. Also i've installed es file explorer and checked the root folder and mount as read/write options which has allowed me to locate the youtube.apk. What i'd like to know is whether to go ahead and delete/rename the files as was detailed in the first post or should I wait until more advanced users test it. Cause I really like my scroll and don't want to brick it.
Thanks in advance

I will check with the other mods and see if they agree - if so we will send it to the graveyard.
If it isn't broken then don't try to fix it!

Rooting is gaining root privileges, on an Android device through that you can able to use the program which require access as well as flashing a ROM on your device or changing the boot sounds.
While others are slimmed down, bloatware-free versions of the same version.
