Scroll Essential Mini USB & OTG adapter

Postby Topman » December 22nd, 2011, 1:34 pm

Hi,
I just joined the forum as I bought a new Scroll Essential (53511) and I need to know about its USB connectivity.
As you know this tablet has only 1 mini USB OTG port. It came with a mini USB to PC cable but no adapter provided for other purposes like connecting USB flash memory sticks, keyboard, mouse or other peripherals to the tablet!
First can someone please tell me if my tablet has a mini USB type A, B, AB or would it accept both?
Also after buying a few adapters from various sources that didn't work! I done a research on OTG USB. I found out that I need a mini USB adapter with pin#4 and pin#5 shortened or connected together inside the mini USB plug, in order to put the tablet in Host mode and therefore accepting USB peripherals. I finally found one that worked (Picture 2). The problem is, it sticks out too much so I am looking for one with a short cable between the plugs (Picture 1). This has been very difficult to find as I have to confirm with the sellers (Most don't have a clue!) if pin#4 is active or not and I have not found a type B one yet, however I did find a type A one with pin#4 active. So I would like to know if it will fit in my Scroll's mini USB socket and if not where can I get the right adapter from?
To be honest I am disappointed that Scroll did not provide the right adapter with this tablet which seems to be quite specialised and hard to find! My friend just bought a Cambridge Science tablet and it came with one so he didn't have any such trouble!

I can only say as I find and I've never had any problems with Mobilefun. I've been buying off them for well over four years! I suppose it's the luck of the draw and I haven't bought anything from them in the last six or seven months!

Try this link then:

Sorry guys you got it wrong!

The Scroll has a Mini USB not Micro USB. The Nokia C-157 cable doesn't fit as its a micro USB.

I found a mini type A OTG usb adapter cable here:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110777792334&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:US:1123

The seller confirmed to me that Pin#4 & 5 are active on this adapter but I need to know if the Scroll's mini USB is type, A, B or any is ok?
