Postby Mitre » December 17th, 2011, 10:01 am

Hi my excell came pre rooted busybox is installed
No superuser or terminal emulator

WARNING ONLY DO THIS IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING YOU CAN BRICK YOUR SCROLL AND ANY SYSTEM CHANGES YOU MAKE WILL VOID YOUR WARRANTY

First i got terminal emulator from market open it type su press return if the $ changes to # on the next line you have root
Click menu close window
If you have root-
Next install supruser from market open app and update the binary this moves the app into your system and makes it usable(DONT DO THIS IF YOU WANT TO REMOVE THE APP LATER AS YOU ALMOST CERTAINLY WONT BE ABLE TO REMOVE IT ONCE DONE)
Thats it you have all you need to, mash up your scroll

Can I ask a quick question? I'm wondering if I am a superuser on my Scroll Excel (2.3.4); I have installed Terminal Emulator as suggested and typed 'su'. if gave the response, "su: must be suid to work properly". I then tried typing 'suid', which gave the response, "suid: not found".
What does this mean and how would I go about getting su status? I'm hoping that this will be the reason I cannot seem to get the Calendar to synchronise with either of my GMail accounts - even though I've also followed the steps in installing the Calendar and Contactsync APK's. Many thanks.

you dont need superuser app to have root priveliges but some apps require the super user app to work which is why we put it on when you type su in terminal emulator the $ sign will change to # if you have a rooted device

Ah, then its not rooted :-( I have performed a factory reset, installed Market then Terminal emulator.
i then typed 'su' but got the same responses as before. Im sure this is why the Calendar sync APKs won' t install.
Any ideas how to get root permissions (sorry if this is a basic question). Cheers
